View Full Version : Remington 870 - is there such a thing as a skeet barrel?

I have an old Remington 870 in 12 ga with a short 18 smooth barrel. Even though it is the "wrong" gun by any measurable standard, I do pretty well with it shooting trap, skeet and even 5-stand. I can't afford a proper gentleman's over/under or a lightweight semi-auto, so I'm wondering if there is a lightweight 28" barrel ready for screw in chokes that I can install on my 870. Any reccommendations?
Thanks in advance.

Yes and they are easy to find......spend some time with Goggle and find a good price. Installs in a nano second,
If you want the lighter barrel they are called "light contour" or "LC" barrels.

Light Contour. Awesome, thanks for the tip. That's the kind of info I was looking for. Amazingly, most sites I checked were out of stock for them. Bummer. Except for Brownel's who want more for the barrel than a new shot gun costs!
Yes, there is a skeet barrel 26" 12ga. vent rib polished blue with screw-in chokes---I have one---they are only available from time to time---I might even sell it as I don't shoot any skeet and used to use it for bird hunting, but only a little. It is in mint condition. I don't know what they are worth nowdays. I am in L.A.

What a rip off Brownells is pulling by charging over $70 more then Remington sells it for. That barrel is part number 26217 and if you call 800-243-9700 and follow the prompts to order parts you can buy it from Remington for $285 or the 26" version is part number 240652 and is $283. Always check the Remington parts list before you buy anything Remington.
Also, you can simply get the 28" Vent Rib matte finish barrel part number 26314 for $197 and since it is threaded for Rem Chokes you can install a Remington Skeet choke.
