How do you legally purchase a complete lower assembly when the buttstock, pistol grip and receiver are injection molded into a single unit. Do you have to have a fixed 10 round mag installed in it before it is shipped? I am thinking the would FFL receive it and hold it for your 10 day and upon pick up you would need to have fixed the mag before you walk out. Is this the case or does it have to be shipped with a fixed mag first? Here is the link to what I am referring to:

You are speaking of the CavArms lower, likely sold by Armalite.
I'd stay away from this. If your mag has a problem, there's open legal question about servicing since the pistol grip is always attached.
Get a regular milspec lower.

You could do a kydex grip or plexiglass sharkfin and run no-evil-features. Though, you'd have to do the mod out of state then ship it to your FFL or else use someone in-state who has an assault weapons license and is willing to accommodate such behavior.

More hassle than it's worth. Like Bill said, stick with a regular mil spec lower.
Just my $0.02 :)

Don't bother. CavArms' owner publicly stated on arfcom that he could care less about California gun owners.
Funny thing is; I feel the same about his junk.:)

I already have three mil spec lowers (view my signature), I was thinking of trying something different. This seems to be very light weight and more robust with less scuffing potential. If that's what the CavArms' owner said then to hell with his company. Thanks for the advice, I'll stick to what I know.

If you're looking for 'something different' try a regular Bushmaster Carbon-15 lower. It's not listed (but double-check that it does not say "Professional Ordnance" on it anywhere). I won't recommend them for anyone's first build, but for your fourth, sure...

Thanks again Bill :)

If you really wanted one, you could find a out of state dealer/seller and mail him a prince50/bushie 10rd mag combo along with payment and have him fix the mag prior to shipping to your FFL. Unless your FFL has a AW permit from DOJ, he cannot legally receive this lower as is.

The real problem is the CA legal AWs I have sold are a pain in the butt after the newness wears off. The guys that bought them were all excited but after having to beark it open every 10 rounds they now sit the gun safes and the owners wish they had spent that $1000 on something they can actually have fun with. Just not worth the time. Buy a Kel Tec SU-16 or Mini.

CA legal AWs
They are not assault weapons, assault weapons are banned in California unless you registered them prior to Jan 1st, 2000. Are you talking about semiauto centerfire rifles? ;)

That's why I run no-evil-features. ;)
