Took the barrel out to clean it today & found this...

Called mossberg, they said I can ship it to them at my cost & they will repair it & send it back.

They said that I can ship it via UPS, I called the local UPS store, they said they can't ship it & that I have to take it to their main facility that is half an hour away.

When calling the main UPS line for details on this facility the guy read off some pdf the restrictions involved & mentioned that I need to have a "license"... I said "WTF license?" he said "well you have to have a license to have a gun" I said "no you don't!" he said "well just take it to the facility then" *sigh*

You can also take this opportunity to upgrade to an action tube setup. The Big 5 mossberg combo really just has a Maverick 88 front end on a Mossberg receiver. If you have to shell out money to fix it with the same parts, which don't hold up very well...

If you print out and pay for a UPS tag online, you can tape it to the box and hand it to a driver. However, Mossberg really should be paying the freight both ways. See if they will email you a tag, print it out, and then do the above.

The cheapest conversion is the 6 3/4 inch conversion. You will need:
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=373588
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=116107
and whatever forgrip you want, as long as it is made for the 6 3/4 inch action tube.

The conversion is probably your best bet. But if you don't want to go that route, I have a Maverick forearm from my Big 5 combo that I'll sell you for less than retail.

Bummer, how long have you had it?

About a year and a half.

Mossberg refused to pay the shipping to them, said they would pay the shipping back to me...

Now, that comment I made in the OP about UPS claiming the need for a license turned out to be in reference to their official policy requiring a dealer/FFL license. The woman that I spoke with when I got to the UPS facility said that she would only make an exception for me since I had a print out of the mossberg website page that has their service address on it...

This begs the obvious question of how would they know what you're shipping if you don't tell them I guess, still seems like a BS policy.

How many rounds through it?

Maybe 600 rounds or so, hard to say, I have been bringing it out to our shooting trips where we buy several of the large WALMART cases of 100x cheap birdshot every time.

The only modification I had made on this shotgun was to buy a limbsaver.

**Paid about 20 bucks for shipping**

It would seem my UPS driver is way better than the UPS store based on your statement OP! The driver pretty much knows what I am recieving and shipping, granted we have a bussiness relationship(not pertaining to firearms though), I am beginning to wonder if he is a firearm enthusiast!
No reason to tell anybody that it is a shotgun forestock at the store. It is NOT a firearm you are shipping.

Call Mossberg back and speak with a Service Dept. Manager. Because your gun is less than 2 years old it should be paid shippping to Mossberg. When or if you ship your gun off, replace any after market items you've installed with the stock parts. If you don't you run the risk of having them replaced at the factory and not returned.
That is the strangest break on a 500 I have ever seen.

Sent them an email asking them to pay the shipping cost I paid yesterday, we'll see...

Yeah, the break is damn odd, I don't understand how it could have happened...
