Has anyone seen or know what this ammo is? it's plastic and brass it's .223 cal. and marked ".223 REM PCA 04" I know what the .223 REM and the 04 is but what about the brand? Can it be reloaded? (I only have one, I was just curious) I have been holding onto it for about 6 mos. I just thought it was cool....plastic ammo!

I shoot a lot of this stuff. It is lightweight and cheap. Shoots ok. I buy it in sac for $2.99 a box.

Be careful. I left a round in a hot chamber for few minutes before I fired it in an SU-16. The case was soft and deformed but otherwise intact. A few minutes longer though and I might have had a badly fouled chamber.
I got mine a few years ago. IIRC, it was $75/500 from Miwall

Another awsome post Ted- thank you for that!

As for the ammo- I've seen it but never fired it! Was scared to! Might not be so much so now;)

Here's a comparison test I shot last year. Rifle was a 16" post ban Match Target with a cheap Tasco World Class 3X9 scope. Range was 50 yds. I used 69 gr Sierra Match King Federal Gold Medal Match and my own 69 gr Sierra Match King handloads as controls.

As you can see, the Natec ammo in 55 gr FMJ or 69 gr Sierra Match Kings shoot better than Wolf.

Thanks!! If I can get it for $2.99/20 it would be worth picking some up. It just seems neat shooting plastic ammo.

Here's the review (http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=265202) on this ammo. Good luck finding them on the market(think there was a recall). You know how mssg boards can be when there's a perceived problem:D A few boards did have positive reviews though when it first came out(defensereview, tactical forums). Wish they would iron out the prob instead of abandoning it entirely.

Natchez did have them for 2.99/box...back when LC's were 169/1k.

Where did you buy your South African ammo from? Do you know if they make .308 or 7.62?

the south african 7.62Nato or .308 has run dry recently. they sold the last of it in the early part of this month and no one will be getting any more of the SA from what i understand. its a shame cause it was good and cheap.

I believe Ted was referring to the 80's vintage PMP's imported during Y2k. They came in 300rd battle packs, 9 pack to a case(2700 rds). In 2002, I think they were~350/chest.

Those are 5.5" Shoot-N-C targets I'm pretty sure.

No. This was South African military surplus, not the commercial PMP ammo ~$60/500 rds (which I also have a small stockpile of). I bought 900 rds of the SA surplus from R Guns for ~$90 back in 98 or 99.

Ah, the good old days....

ETA: I guess my reading comprehension is off past midnight. The headstamp on the SA I have is DNL.

Denels...ah soooo, that's why they were so much more accurate than I can get with the PMP's, j/k:D

yes, the good ol'days...wish I'd stockpiled more or not wasted so much of it:)

re:NATEC ammo,
Ted, you've never had bulged primers or any case seperation issues? I'd read they were loaded "hot".
