NRA MCs: Sacramento Councilwoman Lauren Hammond on Gun Control (video)

On December 5, 2006, the Sacramento City Council met to discuss the latest attack on gun-rights being distributed to California cities and counties by the Legal Community Against Violence (LCAV).

Among their latest schemes is an ordinance that would require Sacramento gun owners to report, within 48 hours, the loss or theft of a gun. The many problems with this idea are highlighted at:

However, we've found the following passage from Councilwoman Lauren Hammond's remarks that day most revealing. How about you?

And if you listen closely, you'll hear Councilwoman Hammond address a Miss? Ms? "Bell" as to the impracticalities/inefficacy.

I'm quite sure this "Bell" lady is one Ellyne Bell. She's an schoolmarm/ touchy-feely socialworker type (read: jumps to & fro on gov't welfare jobs) that also ran for Sacto Co. school board. (Have no idea if she won.)

She's a Bradyite - http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=66481

She also belongs to "California Firearms Strategy Group". Hell, I thought that was us! ;)

Bell says she's worked in the field of 'violence prevention'. My 10mm S&W 1006 does that nicely - without a bad hair day, PMS or government $$$.

Remember that Ellyne Bell was one of the folks Alison Merrilees was corresponding with this may, strategizing CA AW matters along with Bryan Siebel of the Bradybunch back in Wash, DC - and the flitabout Luis Tolley (who's apparently outside US stirring up something in Canberra)

What's interesting is Hammond's slap-down of Bell, even though Hammond is a supporter of her for her school board run.

Nice to see someone taking a fact based look at something and pointing out the "Feel Good" measures and their ineffectiveness.

For those that don't know... Councilwoman Hammond has the Oak Park area of Sacramento as part of her district.
This is a pretty rough area with lots of drugs, gangs, and poverty. She knows about gun violence so she could easily have jumped on this and said, "Look at me, I am doing something!" Instead, she is using logic and reason in determining what to vote for.
I have seen her speak a few times during City Council meetings and she is pretty straight forward with how she feels. I am glad she realizes making criminals out of victims with "feel good" laws is NOT good policy. Good job.
