I'm looking for a complete upper...not sure what to get?

Price range is max $1000, but that is an extream case only.

What do you suggest? RRA, DD, Stag, ect,.

This will go on a JD lower. Any thoughts! Thanks...

Daniel Defense
BCM
Noveske
etc

With that price range, you have plenty of top notch choices. Personally, I would opt for a basic BCM (http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/AR-15-16-Mid-Length-Group-s/27.htm) mid length upper and spend the rest on ammo and trigger time ;)

All depends.

What type of shooting are you going to be doing?

My shooting would be out to 500m, plinking, etc.

DI platform is what I know.

BCM looks appealing, but how do they stack-up to Bushmaster, CMMG, RRA? Is it just personal preference or are there truly factors in play?

most here would say that bcm is superior to those brands. I have a bcm middy upper and a daniel defense carbine upper, and both have been flawless. I can't speak personally about the others.

DD is $$$$. I read great things, but not sure if I want to spend that much. I wouldn't be shooting that often to rate a quality upper. But then again, I would like to have the best, if that's what it is.

I would settle for something a bit cheaper...

Any brands for the BCG??

BCM is top quality for the money spent. They're "proven" weapons in use by fighting professionals.

My 16" CMMG middy will shoot along side any of those listed with standard CM barrels, for a LOT less. Maybe I got a good one, but I'm just saying...YMMV.

With a $1k budget, you should be able to have a rather large selection process ahead of you. Go with a BCM and you'll be pleased

Haven't heard Spike's thrown out there yet. I am very happy with their upper that I have so far, great value for the money. I'd use the money you saved and spend it on classes, ammo, and running the gun into the ground.

I bought a Noveske LoPro...then I bought a Noveske Infidel. Both are awesome uppers. Pricey yes, but they come with a BCG which will save you about 130-150.

How about a JD Machine upper? They build custom uppers. Give them a call.

I have a Daniel Defense DDM4 upper and it's been flawless. My old backup AR15 was a BCM carbine length 16in standard barrel. There was an issue with a gas leak, when bought brand new, but BCM warrantied the upper and sent me a replacement one with no questions asked. Great customer service from BCM.

DD and BCM are my top choices.

I went with BCM after reading the "list". As a matter of fact, I just went ahead & ordered a complete BCM rifle. They're attention to detail is what puts them above the rest.

Could someone elaborate on what the pros and cons are on a low profile gas block.

usually used to fit under a longer handrail. Some of them are installed with set-screws instead of the taper pins like a FSB. But if they are installed using rocksett and are protected under a FF handguard there shouldn't be a big concern.

For the money, quality, and proven durability, I would go with a BCM.

Not true. BCM does not supply armed forces. Where did you read this? A BCM ad?

On the other hand, CMT, the "parent" company of Stag, does.

FWIW, I have used Stag, LMT, CMMG, Noveske, DD, and BCM. Aside from the minor differences, I would have a tough time distinguishing them apart while shooting. ALL of the uppers I have tried have been just as reliable, and just as accurate as the next.

I feel people obsessively stress over brands way too much. Pick the profile you like (14.5"/16"/20", carbine/mid length, M4/light weight/bull) and go with a company with a proven track record. All the suggestions that have been thrown out in this thread are G2G and I'm sure you'd be happy with any of those manufacturers.

Thats a good deal. I think its about 40 or 50 dollars cheaper than the ones I've been seeing around. My upper was $485 with the charging handle and handguards thrown in. Plus another $135 or so for the bolt carrier. I also got the LMT fixed rear iron that was another $115. (I wanna shoot with irons for a while before upgrading)
