Hey everyone, I'm really considering purchasing a DD M4V2 Carbine Rifle from Rifle Gear this weekend. I've held the gun and everything feels great, I've also held other models from various stores and the DD feels the best by far. Just wanted to get some opinions on the DD AR, since I know there are so many different brands of the AR.

I've included below the links of the two models in in-between...any in-sight or anyone who owns the rifle and wants to give me their opinion would be appreciated!

Seems to me they're the same rifle... just different rails. Pick the one with the rail you want and go buy it! Don't wait! DD is back logged... something like 5000 rifles behind in orders. This doesn't include uppers and all the other parts they make.

DD is absolutely TOP TIER. You will not regret it as anything beyond a DD is in the "exotic or custom" category.

Go with the one you like the most. The lower one just has a longer rail. It may be a little heavier but that might not be an issue for you. Good luck on your purchase and make sure to post pics.

DD is good stuff  Personally I like the first link.

You've got to go with the one you'll be most comfortable with. It's not like you're buying the rifle for a one time thing. A well built AR can last you your life-time.

If it were me, I'd go with the first link. I don't care much for the rail system on the second one.

Thanks HK Dave, yeah I think the only difference is the Rails, I kinda like the shorter rail better. The V2 and V3...whats the diff between them? Length of overall rifle (both are 16" barrels)?

They can withstand shotgun shells. You can also run them over with your truck, and they will still shoot.

All true...

Also, as far as weight between the different DD Rails... They ARE the lightest rails on the market if you include the barrel nut and all that. Even with the 12" Rail on say the DDM4v1, the rifle is exactly 7lb. I believe all of there other rifles are around that or less.

DD Is absolutely good to go. IF you can find their product's in stock, you should buy them if your in the market.

Ah now that rifle is a bit different. It has a mid length gas system vs the carbine. Also comes with a Cold Hammer Forged barrel. (I don't know if DD actually makes anything non Cold Hammer Forged anymore? Too lazy to check.)

The mid length gas system allows for less overall pressure in comparison to the carbine(shorter) system. Smoother shooting....(so it's said, i don't notice but i'm not a precision shooter) whether you can tell, who knows.

The carbine gas system was originally intended for a 14.5" barrel so it seems the mid length gas system is more proper for the 16", rifle length gas system for the 20" yadda yadda. Whether this translates to whether it even matters in a non Full Auto rifle is beyond me. I've never had problems with any gas system length so I don't lose sleep over it.

As for whether the Cold Hammer Forged barrel is better than the original DDM4 that used Button Rifling is argued over a LOT. Personally, I don't really care either way, both seem to do the same for me... but again i'm not the kind of guy looking for .5 moa out of an AR15.

In the end... sounds like this is your first AR15... i think you'll be HAPPY with any of them, as they all are TOP NOTCH! :D

i got the second link the m4v1 you will like it feels nice and sturdy but not too heavy, most brands make a pretty decent ar but like someone else said dd is definantly a top tier product, get whichever fits you the best alot of people tried to talk me into them little short rails but i happen to have arms like a gorrilla so the longer rail works for me. good luck on whichever you choose

Thanks!

Personally I would go with the first rifle, the rail system is about 5" shorter and you will notice the difference in the weight, especially shooting offhand or any unsupported position. Now if you feel you have a legitimate use for the extended rail then id so go for it, but if not, go with the shorter omega x7 rail.

I have a 12" rail system on my BCM and although it is one of the lighter 12" rails on the market, the extra weight on the front of the rifle makes a difference over time.

Ultimately its what is comfortable to you, I would pick up both, unfortunately you cant shoot them for an hour or so from different positions to see how truly comfortable they are.

Either way, they are both solid rifles, DD makes a great and affordable weapon system. Like others have said, if these are in stock, buy it now... otherwise you may be stuck waiting months...

Good luck and Have fun

DD is absolute top quality. MPI, HP tested, hammer forged bbl, F front sight base etc etc.
Your choice will be which rail length to get, 7, 9, or 12, light wt or gov profile bbl, carbine or mid length gas system, and whether or not you want a fixed front sight base. The 9" rail model (V3) is a mid length gas system. The one in your bottom link (first post) is the 12" rail model, carbine gas system, fixed front sight base model V1. It is mis-labeled on the rifle gear site. Go to the Daniel defense website and look there at the rifles, and read the specs. https://danieldefense.com/rifles.html
Good luck, they are awesome when you can find one in stock ;-)

My Daniel Defense M4 which is the second link you posted is a stud. If it were not for my WASR being as big a stud, it would be my favorite rifle. It is a great rifle that has been reliable, extremely accurate (My WASR is that good), and was worth every penny I put into it. I have well over $2300 into it so far. Last thing I want to put is a bipod.

If I could make the purchase again...I WOULD. I am an AK pattern guy...However, the only other AR I would consider is a Colt and those were the two I wanted except Colts seem to be not so available in CA compared to WA.

Here is my Daniel Defense as it stands...That WASR has gone through a change.

Either way you are champ. I prefer the longer rail...However the shorter rail one looks nice as well.

I went with DD for my first AR. I tried the fit and feel of a bunch of AR's before I made my choice. I'm very happy with it so far. I went with the DDM4v5 LW. The gun by it's self weighed in just over 6lbs and is one of the big reasons I went with DD. I bought this at Sacramento Black rifle, I'd give their shop 2 thumbs up!

I have a DDM4 that I bought last year and currently put over 6,000 rounds. Most of those rounds are from tactical rifle training days. My DDM4 has had no major malfunctions. The only malfunctions I got were from dirty magazines.

If I had to do it all over again I would get a DD rifle but with a midlength setup.

VERY NICE. Congrats! I see you went with the midlength V3 instead of the carbine length V2. I'm a V2 shooter.

Yeah I was between the V2 and V3, felt the V3 gave me more options with the VG and accessories and the gas system as well. Taking it out this weekend to break it in!

I took my DD M4 out shooting this weekend, had a great time, gun is amazing!

I noticed that while shooting it, with ear protection I could hear the spring more than anything else, it was pretty loud too, is this standard with all AR's or just DD AR's?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a single point rifle sling for a DD M4V3...I would just need the sling and an attachment for the rifle.

I know there are a few brands out there, just want to make sure I purchase a reliable one.

Hi,

I have a BlackHawk Universal Tactical 2PT Sling attached to my DDM4V5, I attached it using the Daniel Defense Heavy Duty Push Button Quick Detach Sling Swivel. Here's a link to my thread: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=431051

A little milestone for me-- I hit 2,020 trouble free rounds this past weekend with my M4V2. Dropped in an H2 buffer and Sprinco blue spring-- very smooth. It's gone through numerous trips to the range and various tactical carbine classes where it rolled around in the dirt and sand with me. Can't say enough good about this gun. Love it-- even thought it's an M4gery. ;)
