I am thinking about the Remington 700 after all the rave reviews on it. Can anyone make a recommendation on where to buy it online? I want to get a few more lowers and save on costs while I am at it. I found academy's prices was $428!!

BTW. Whats the difference between the PSS and the cheaper SPS? I guess Remington stopped making the PSS....so I guess my questions now is if the Remington Model P is the same.

You found a PSS for $400 something?? I hope your not confused. PSS used to sell for $700+. Look on gunbroker or guns america. they always have rem PSS and VS rifles for sale.

EDIT: I just looked at the link you provided. Dont get one of those. They are not even in the same ballpark as the older VS and PSS rifles -- hence the price.

I wanna make sure I get a PSS and not a P. Do you know if the rifle actually says PSS on it?

Someone is selling one right now in the for sale section really cheap now. You might want to take a look.

Thanks. I wanna make sure anything I look at is a genuine PSS

I am not sure how to tell the difference between a new "P" and a "PSS" other than the weight according to the link above.

Look on the barrel up by the receiver.

IIRC, 700 SPS is a separate, lower-cost hunting rifle from the 700 PSS ("Police Sniper), the latter of which is generally similar to a 308 VS (Varmint Synthetic).

700 SPS is a lighter-weight (lighter barrel)l hunting rifle. Like most hunting rifles, it'll be good enough for hunting but don't expect anywhere near PSS accuracy. Hunting rifles don't have to be hyper accurate as most specialty hunting ammo loads aren't that accurate either (when compared to std FMJ or Sierra SMK bullet).

weird. the wiki website information just changed. it now doesn't state that the PSS and the P are different anymore!

They come in .308 or .223 and are more accurate than you may ever be. unless you are david tubb. Look at my post in the riflemans forum about taking the girlfriend shooting and I am not bull****ting you when I say that gun WILL deliver .25moa as long as you can execute. My smallest 100yd group is .175 in my smallest 300yd group is .295in. both were on measured NRA ranges with witnesses and with the .223 ltr shooting a 69 grain bullet. the 300yd group was with federal gold medal ammo and the 100 yd group was a home load meant to duplicate that round.

$750ish, sometimes you might find a deal for $700. Fairly high demand so that colors the pricing a bit - 700PSSes generally run a tad bit cheaper ($20+ or so).

I love my LTR. With Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr ammo it's doing overlapped cloverleaf patterns, with some same-hole groups. A better idiot behind the wheel would make it more consistent - the gun's doing its part.

Trigger is set OK, but is user-adjustable as per various instructions out on the web.
