If you want 5.56, just find a batch of XM193. I run PMC .223 brass on all of mine, never have a problem with it.

And, Wolf only get shot through my Norinko....Not the AR

BTW, looks like a nice rig!

I run PMC bronze for plinking also. Never had an issue with it, and its inexpensive. Check out http://palmettostatearmory.com

PMC bronze is usually the cheapest. 55gr.

Wolf is OK too. Don't listen to the maniacs that tell you it's bad. If their rifle wont run it, the problem is with the rifle, not the ammo (these are battle rifles we're talking about here). I do hear there can be issues shooting lacquered ammo and then switching to plain 'ol brass without cleaning the chamber (it gets tight on some rifles I guess, extraction issues, etc).

I prefer herter's over wolf tho if I'm going to buy cheap steel-cased stuff because the herter's is usually cheaper and seems cleaner and more accurate. Could be just me tho (or my rifles).

PMC can be had locally for a good price, Federal XM193 is a tad bit more but was slightly more accurate for me.

If you want to shoot Wolf, build an AK.

try everything, go from there.
For the money for general plinking, PMC and XM193 are hard to argue with. My build (LMT upper) eats wolf just fine, its a bit dirty and isnt horribly consistent but for stopping paper targets dead in their tracks it works just fine

For plinking and SHTF ammo, I use Federal XM193 (55gr FMJ). A while ago I bought some PMC Bronze .223 (55gr FMJ). It was ok, but my AR's seem to like the Federal better. They are pretty close price-wise.

At the Del Mar gun show last weekend, Miwall was selling a case (1000rds) of Federal XM193 (55gr FMJ) for $269 + tax. That is the best price I have seen recently - and better current online pricing (with shipping). If you can wait until the Crossroads of the West gun show comes to Costa Mesa on June 4-5, you might consider stocking up there if they have the same prices that they did in Del Mar.

And I don't shoot Wolf in my AR's. Personal preference.

Since I'm on a tight budget, I shoot more with .223 than 5.56. For me, I prefer the PMC and Federal brands, although I was fortunate enough to pick up a great deal on some Hornady TAP at a local gun show.

I just picked up PMC for 5.99$ a box at a local shop could not pass it up. Would rather have 5.56. For killing paper and steal PMC is good and is close to wolf in price so i will go with brass when its this cheap. The other shop had federal 62g for 162$ for 420

Buy some 50-100 rounds of wolf to try out. If your rifle is not finicky about its ammo, then shoot away

I usually buy from Palmetto, 300 bucks for 1k shipped isnt bad at all.

DSGarm had a sale on Fiocchi 223 a while back, free shipping and 269 per 1k, bought a few thousand of that, but that was at least 6months ago... I'm all out of it now though :(

Wolf or silver/brown bear is pretty cheap. Silver bear is one of my favorites. Its not as dirty as wolf and is pretty accurate.

Wolf is good to go for plinking. You will not get the best groupings if that is your intention. If you are happy at 3 MOA then go for it. Wolf has not been lacquer coated in a long time they now use a polymer coating that leaves no residue. See HERE (http://www.wolfammo.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=77&Itemid=116)

Lot of threads lately (AGAIN) on wolf and ARs lately. Seems to be an emotional issue for some here.

The main reason why I don't shoot Wolf (and like others) through my rifles is that it sucks. Meaning the quality and consistency of the projectile and how it shoots, sucks to me. I require something that shoots proper and nominal at even a simple 200 yds. I don't recommend it to others, but I don't lecture they shouldn't buy it either.

Wolf is GREAT... for your AK.

If you LIKE replacing extractors sooner than normal, FTF's and FTE's, by all means, go nuts. AR's were designed with BRASS-CASED ammo in mind, even as the AK - with its looser tolerances - was designed with steel-cased ammo in mind.

This is not a hobby for cheapskates - buy PMC or bulk M193 and enjoy your rifle. Run Wolf, and have fun repairing it, instead of shooting it.

Yeah I only use it for plinking/riverbed fun- not for guns I'm trying to punch paper with or shoot long range (under 300 yards, tops). Didn't know about the change in coating- all I know is it's shiny. :)

See above. For certain types of shooting it's just fine. If you're looking for inexpensive blasting ammo that's "battle accurate" you'll be A-OK with Wolf or Herter's (again, I prefer Herter's). For shooting cans with a red dot at 50 - 100 yards it's perfect, just accurate enough that, if you miss, it's probably your fault and not the ammo.

It's the folks that flip out over using Wolf in their high-end guns because they think it somehow damages the guns is what makes me chuckle a bit.

Fine, but it still sucks. Sorry, but just my opinion on how I spend my money.

You might think that with many years of shooting under my belt you wouldn't have to tell me you can plink with steel Wolf at cans at 50 yards. Yeah, ok - but that's now what I want from my ammo regardless if I am shooting at 50 then want to range out to 200 to shoot the same can. And my ARs are made to shoot that way with 5.56 and are not necessarily "high-end", depending on what you think that means.

Well what do you plan on using it for is where i would start. Just at the range? Id start with PMC. (55gr. FMJ). cheap. good plinking ammo. just dont get too addicted to this now... it can really hurt your wallet. Love the setup though!

Anything it will feed! :)

My favorite is M193 5.56

Have also shot a ton of PMC.

Will probably try weapons world stuff at $230 per 1000 rounds but have to wait until winter when they let us use bimetal.

IMO...you should try different brands. Your rifle will let you know what it likes and when you find it, buy it in bulk. Try both .223 & 5.56 ammo, PMC and XM193 are both good starting points. Enjoy and be safe

Walmart has Tula 20rnd boxes for less than $5, thats 250+tax for 1k and you can get that today. Assuming its in stock at least. Where I am at, there are usually 20-40 boxes whenever I cruise by the ammo shelves.

I prefer AE223 over PMC Bronze. I can get them both locally for $5.99 a box and I find the AE223 to be just slightly more accurate. But having said that, I would not hesitate to buy PMC Bronze if I could not get AE223.
