I have a 10/22 rifle which shoots about 8" to the right. Is there a prefered way to adjust the front sight without banging on it? It looks like it should be able to slide left or right.

at what distance is it shooting 8" off? if it is shooting 8" at 100yds or less I'd think it is either a bent barrel or one of the sight mounts was machined out of spec.. or how the barrel mounts in the receiver is out of spec.

I agree with NRAhighpowershooter, 8" is quite a bit for a 10/22. Were you using a benchrest or shooting freehand? You might have better luck running a search on http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/ These guys live to tinker with 10/22's :)

I used the bench rest but not with any sandbags. The rifle has had quite a few rounds put through it in the last 8 years. The grouping is not the tightest but is in the general area on the paper target probably 2". I was only shooting out to 50 yards.
