After reading several rave reviews over at 1911forum.com I decided to order the SureFire MR07 1911 Light Rail last night. I already own a SureFire X200 light. However, it is compatable with a wide variety of weapon lights.

Current price is $99. A year or so ago it was more than twice that.

Complaints are that it will put the light a little lower than an integrated rail would, but the pros are that it is a very solid mount that does not mar the frame and is completely removable should you decide you don't want it on there anymore. Those who use it and like it rave about it. Those who already have integrated rails on their 1911s think it is alright, but like having an integrated rail better because the light is a little higher. Obviously those guys are completely sold on the idea of a railed 1911 to begin with, or they would not have spent the money on one.

When you consider how few listed 1911s have rails, and the cost of having a 1911 rail permanently installed, this is a nice option to have. I am sure there are plenty of Calguns.net users who have wanted an option like this...but it doesn't get discussed very often.

Another complaint I read about was that finding a holster is difficult. However, I called Blade-Tech today (my personal favorite kydex holster manufacturer) and got some good news. They said they can make any of their kydex light holsters (except for the inside the pants version) for the MR07 mount and your specific light combination. It won't be on the dropdown list online. But if you call in your order they will custom make it to fit what you have and will not charge any extra for it.

I am sure other kydex holster makes like Raven Concealment would do the same.

I have a Surefire MR11 on my Beretta 92 and it's more solid than my P226R with the integrated rail.

I have the MR07 on my 1911. I did have to file a bit on the slide release it came with. The slide release wouldn't drop down when I tried racking the first round.

Here's a pic where i filled a bit (red circle). This is not the actually slide release it comes with but just to give you an idea if you run into this problem.
Other then that, it's a good solid mount.

I'm definately waiting to make sure it runs 100% before ordering a holster.

They look like they fill a good niche for folks without the rail, (plus helps them sell more mounted lights Im sure) and made by surefire, Im sure its a well designed and built accessory.

As for 1911s, an integrated rail is an excuse for me to pick up a Springfield Pro Operator. I am toying around with the idea of buying one of these for my pre-rail W German Sigs though.

Safariland makes a holster for 1911s w/ the Surefire rail adapter and the Surefire X200. The X200 as been dicontinued and replaced by the the X300. They are supposed to be very similar in size but I don't know how that would work with the Safariland holster.

Since most the listed 1911s don't have rails, that nitch includes most California 1911 owners. At least the ones who want to train or work in low light

They make this but I don't like the thumb break.

Tacticalcity you will be good to go and will love the rail. I bought one several years ago because I change out my 1911 night stand guns every few months.

My recommendation is after mounting it take it to the range with the light on it and shoot it. Some shooters have experienced malfunctions because of the change in weight forward of the gun. Also I think the side problem is the shooter and proper shooting form i.e. Possible limp wristing.

You will like it and just remember keep your wrists stiff.

Also blade tech is a great company. I have several holsters from them and they work great can't go wrong with them.

You are right. There are spacers for that though.

Well all in all it was nice, but not exceptional. I tried it out a little and decided I'd rather run my 1911 without it. So I sold it online.

so im going to necro this thread.. Im using a mr07 surefire rail with xiphos light. And am wonderin if it will work in a serpa wxiphos level 3 duty holster. Or will the rail be to low/long/ or fat like in the cqc holster.

Xiphos is a light made by Blackhawk. It has a unique shape to it. Other lights don't work with the Blackhawk holster made to work exclusively with it. Just pointing that out because a lot of people get that bit wrong.

I am going to assume it would not work. The surefire attachment rail rides a lot lower than a normal rail. That effects holster fit. You are better off getting one of the custom kydex makers to make something for you.

I have a xiphos light. And my big issue is I like the serpas ergos and retention (i train with it with a glock) I need something with level 3 retention and that accomodates the xiphos light L(
