OH my,
Went to visit my new Barrett REC 7 in 6.8 at the FFLs house today, I must say Barrett makes one smoove shootin' iron. Count down is 10 days from today. We had a long conversation about the current AW laws and the recently filed case and potential ramifications for the black guns in the future. Heady brew!

Barrett made two AR type rifles both in 6.8x43mm SPC.
Around 2004, Barrett first made the M-468.
In 2007, Barrett started making the REC7.
The M-468 was discontinued and replaced by the REC7.

The main difference between the two.
M-468 = direct impingement
REC7 = gas-piston

If I had $2400 to spend on a rifle, I would get one of these instead of a SCAR :D
Don't see many Barrett's around period

6.8 ammo is sooo expensive.
Looks like a great gun though!!!
Enjoy.

The m468 had flip up sights with the front one incorporated why the hell did they get rid of them on the Rec7 thats my only complaint its a nice rifle but 6.8 to pricey to shoot for me. Better post some pics when you get her.

Hey,
My panties have been in a bunch since I had to sell my German Mfg HK91 due to the AW fiasco in CA, I never registered it since I truly believed the ban would be overturned on appeal and the firm belief that the state had no business in my business. I bought the Barrett in 6.8 for separate and distinct reasons, one, I now buy American whenever possible an two, I always believed that the 5.56 was a little deficient the 6.8SPC pedigree sold me on the AR platform. The AR platform HK is nice, made in America but still a 5.56.
Pics will follow, BUIS from Troy Industries are on the way, once kitted pics for all.

They do make a 5.56 REC7 if you don't like the price tag for 6.8 :p

Anytime I see one of those TangoDown grips on someone's rifle, my first thought is always, "That guy must have really small hands."

What an awesome gun, though. Congrats!

Why?

It looks fatter than a typical AR grip.

For big hands (like mine, short fingers with a meaty palm) I really like the mako grips. http://www.themakogroup.com/product_p/ag-43.htm I seriously love this grip (only one I use on my featured ARs, though I prefer featureless so it doesn't get a lot of use).

It's not. It's like it was made for women it's so small in the hand.

Hey,
The Barrett got out of jail today! Spent a little quality with it, installed some Troy Industries M-4 folding iron sights. Spent some time making sure there weren't any bad things lurking in the barrel, receiver ect. New to the platform, think I might go throw a few rounds down the pipe. Anything in specific I should check?

Field stripped, cleaned and relubed all reachable surfaces. Seems Barrett uses some kind of preservative, real sticky seems like a real dirt magnet, got most off, gonna shoot tomorrow and do a serious field strip and cleaning. Today's cleaning allowed me to inspect all the major components in raw sunlight with a magnifying glass. Barrett does really fine machine work and the finish is flawless, I went over the upper, and lower with a fine tooth comb looking for burrs and anything untoward, and found nothing but a squeeky clean well preserved tool! Barrett produces a premium priced product and the fit, finish and everything about it is first cabin. I was nervous about spending that kind of coin for a random bullet slinger, but my expectations are exceeded.

Wow, I drove a LandCruiser FJ40 for 10 years, and been shootin' a Rec7 for 2. Good taste my man... That's a Gen2, whats the serial num (approx) if I may ask? (according to Barrett, the numbers begin at 0 and go continuously regardless of which generation) Mine is in the 900's (B009**) and I dont think too many of the Gen2's or Gen1's were made. They were fulfilling military contracts for a while there and Rec7's were super hard to come by (especially here in Cali). As soon as they ramped up again, they changed to a DD quad rail, and a slippery nickel bolt carrier. http://www.flickr.com/photos/chriswakefield/sets/72157624044829519/ -More gun pics
