I followed this guide, can still be tricky though, and in one of his pictures of the hammer spring, the spring is on backwards/upside down

So I hear but I want to do it right the first time and I like to learn so I figured it would be better if a person thats done it a few times teaches me.

i did 2 myself with never having done one myself..its really really easy...

http://www.ar15.com/content/guides/assembly/lower/

Print off the part list and match up your LPK to the pic. i literally put each part on top of the pic.

I used this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iA_Vkb2UB1w (part 1, you can easily find part 2)

I didn't use any punches, just a needle nose plier and plastic head hammer

I used this one. I am very new to ARs and firearms in general, but mechanically inclined. I read the instructions twice and took my time. I timed myself and it took 40 minutes. Only tools I had were the punch, hammer, and a few pliers.

Very easy!

They are pretty easy to build. Print out a lpk part list and the instructions and play the YouTube video and you're good to go. I built my second one two years later without any instructions. Great way to get to know your rifle and how to trouble shoot things or fix things if something goes.

Congrats and good luck!

It might seem like a tiresome task, but it's really easy. All the tools you'll need are easy to acquire. Once you get the LPK done, the rest is literally cake.

Good luck!

Let the man have his party!
I'll help you bud. Just let me know when you've got it. It's not difficult, you just have to not lose stuff. Especially detents.

Really not worth having a party. It only takes a few minutes to an hour (depending on if you have thumbs or not) to put one together. Build parties tend to be geared more towards actually making a receiver and then assembling a gun on it.

This is truth.

It took me 20 minutes to put together my first lower. I was all geared up for it after getting parts together for months, but it went together almost disappointingly quick. Very little skill involved.

But speaking of build parties. Are there anymore for guys that want to build out an 80%er? I myself would love to build an AR pistol. or at least get started with a lower

i thought the hardest part was the pivot pin spring...i used a vons club key ring card to hold it in place...little sucker went flying once or twice

When I saw the title I thought the OP was talking about 80% lowers lol. Surprised the AK guys didn't jump is saying "You dont build an AR, You build an AK... you only assemble an AR." LOL :43: j/k

Anyways, unless you really want to just kick it with some dudes and put it all together slowly then thats cool, but as far as not knowing how to, literally spend 20 minutes watching some youtube vids, get the parts printout and directions (the OLL guide dropdown at the top of the CG page) and build your lower. It shouldn't take more than 30-40minutes if your semi competent and can follow directions, then your next one will take 15minutes. Just make sure you put the disconnector spring in correctly, that seems to be a big problem with people apparently.

I'd be into the idea of a build (or assemble) party, but I just ordered my parts kit and expect it in 4-5 weeks. :-/
