I got the idea from this (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=43693) thread that perhaps we should have an OT board dedicated solely to SHTF, zombie, end of the world and related topics. How about it? Seems logical to me...

How about "SHTF, Zombies, Conspiracies, North American Union, Trilateral Commission and Real Currency" forum?

Then we could add an option to block all the posts so that no posts from this board come up when you hit the "New Posts" button.

Although I am against it now... because Ramon was right... creating a sub category for the nuts here would make us seem like crazy gun nuts.

That's so true cat its better to just be thought of as a "GUN NUT" rather than a "CRAZY GUN NUT" Or would it be a Gun Nut that has other beliefs than the mainstream Gun Nut's. After all individual thought is bad.

But aren't you the least happy we aren't democrats ?

Isn't it worse to be a gun grabber than believe in the illuminati ?

Yes I remember I also got a chuckle when you first posted it so many months ago.

I would not mind an actual survival forum. Talking about preps for what ever may be coming down the road is never a bad idea. Katrina opened my eyes to being prepared. At least the people there had some warning, earthquakes just happen.

The talk about zombies and tinfoil hat stuff should live in off topic if you ask me.

I've certainly got a Libertarian streak in me, but I'm a Dem.

Back on topic though, I'd say an SHTF and zombie forum should be just for silly topics like that, and survival and everything else can stay in the off-topic forum. That way anyone who doesn't want to see tongue-in-cheek posts can just ignore that forum.

Sorry to barf on this thread metalhead357 but I've had my fill of SHTF and then some. I think a SHTF category would be a great idea as long as it diverts SHTF from intruding on all the other categories. I remember a few months ago when the Riflemans Forum was infested by SHTF topics that where not only pointless but extremely redundant. It kinda resembled a zombie outbreak because when one SHTF thread was killed two more came back to life. :D
Don't get me wrong, I like SHTF as much as the next guy but you have to admit that it's not a very broad topic. Now a survival tactics section that highlights emergency preparedness and realistic SHTF scenarios would be great idea.

Apocalyptic zombie pandemics are always welcome from time to time, but the only way (of course) to stop that kind of vile threat is to drop nukes and that would be for the WOMD forum! .......Oops! Looks like I'm going to have to log-off now... the orderly is coming with my straight jacket and my thorazine is wearing off!:)

I would appreciate A shtf thread that was at least trying to be practical. You can come up with zombie scenarios all day but i think preparation for such things as earthquakes, riots, terrorism, and other conceivable crises situations would be helpful. Sorry to ruin it for some, but i'm afraid the zombie scenario is very Statistically Improbable. Great subject for video games and movies but i hope people are stocking real neccesities like food, water, gas, medical supplies etc. along with with the guns and ammo.:(

BTW i recently saw a youtube documentary about a club that meets and prepares for zombie invasions. It reminded me of some of the people on this forum :)

Well thank you for that and not thinking I was attacking you:)
I LOVE the "excessives" in these regards and find SOME of the threads rather playful and much more intriguing than the dinasaur- arguments of 45 v 9 or 308 vs 223 that can even be had OUTSIDE of the SHTF threads.

So while Zombies are.........a playful topic. I understand that some can get bent on seeing repetative threads.... Who/Where was all those threads from Kenshin? LOL!!!! Started as playful but after multiple variations on nuances etc. it did get rather much even in my 'loose' opion on these things.

I would much prefer if another board opens up a location for those people to congregate, preferable far away (GunsCal comes to mind as a perfect venue).

Thanks for the free billing & I'll even forgive the slight:p We had our share of pendantic wanna be trollish peeps:eek:

But hey....I've no problem with that suggestion either! Give me more threads to mod there!!!!!!

But I agree somewhat too this all should have a CALIFORNIA focus; so while Zombies are easy tooling to wet yer' teeth on the unimaginable it DOES open the roads to talk the talk about survival.....true survival in a very real way; One can ADVOCATE killing of Zombies with impunity- do that to any other human, or subset therein and you'll be escorted off most sites with prejudice. Its a nice 'escape clause' in the imagination wherin terminal ballistics on flesh & bone...and even craniums can be talked about without very many getting upset. But all that aside--- the talks DO show/allow some to rethink thier positions on things; from quatities of water & food, beat-feat Bug out from a Zero zone or stay put and theoretically fight to death. All with relative anonimity and impunity.

You mentioned wine storage. So while its....academic....to most; there certainly are some folks in parts of cali that have "true" stockpiles of the stuff that would/could litterally be out thousands of dollars without some back-up plan to the energy grid. So if its ECONOMIC survival...there certainly are the sub-sets of survivalism that talk about the possible recoveries from small, medium, and large economic collapses.

But hey....to each his own. Dont want it here? There are certainly places that alreaday have them...so no harm no foul. I just personally like the suggestion rather than watching/reading 10 boards when I can keep it closer to only 2 or 3

Peace. And oh yeah-- 45 kicks butt and .308 rules:p

Definately a fun forum to have on CalGuns, where most people seem to have an above average IQ and overactive imagination.

I personally would love to find out people's opinions on:
* 10/22 Zombie question: Can we really just get by with a 10/22 and 25 rnd butler creek mags (if you had them before the ban)?
* Best Velociraptor caliber : Is a .44 magnum overkill for a velociraptor, or will a .45 acp do?
* For an EMP Blast : Will we all be screwed with an electronic safe, or should we cache extra guns in a combo lock safe or attic?
* Best MRE Flavor : What's the best MRE to stock up on in case of major civilization failure?
* Best Pets to Eat : If the EOTW comes about, will we be better off with cats or dogs as pets? One of them HAS to be more tasty...

Personally, I would find speculation into any of these subjects much more entertaining than the "2 week bandemonium" threads, even with 10% Wes on his scooter. :) Come on, guys, that horse is dead. We won and there's NO LIST EVER!!! W00T! :D

I would go with 308,223/556,12 gauge,22lr, but for pistol can't decide if it's better to stock 9mm or 45acp. Anybody have an opinion on this? The 9mm is cheap so buying huge amounts of fmj is easy and it may be better logistically since it's lighter, but the edge in stopping power goes to 45, especially if were just comparing fmj to fmj. so which one? Both?

If it's zombies, then 45acp all the way. On the other hand, if you put together a 9mm carbine, 9mm may be somewhat worth having...

Depends on the type of zombie. Also depends on just how good you are at headshots. Zombies can be shot in a fair number of places in the head (face, etc) with 9mm and not drop, but you get better expension off of 45acp, which tends to increase the effective size of your kill zone. Kinetic energy is your friend.

It doesn't make for good movie making, but a brick of 22 gives you up to 500 headshots. do you have to totally scramble zombie brains? or will a quick zip in the cranium put their equilibrium off kilter?

Totally depends on your situation. A 22 is thoroughly indispensable for the "swarm" stage of a zombie outbreak, after you've secured a fortified position and they're just sort of milling around outside. However, in this scenario I'd use a 22LR rifle, for better control and such. You do not want to use a 22LR handgun for CQB. It would be acceptable for walking around behind a fence, however, and dropping zombies as they pile up against it.

Remember, your handgun is an emergency, close-in weapon for use when your primary longarm fails, runs out of ammunition, or the zombies are too close for your longarm.

arn't zombies already dead?? perhaps we need a diferant term than "kill zone" .22 is a good practice weppon and a ok backup if you have nothing else but there are many hits that would be stoppers with a .38spl on up that would require several fallow up shots with a .22lr, there is just not enough Kinetic energy and those fallow up shots cost you time which can be your enemy

lol sounds like you all never played resident evil! If your down to just your pistol then sorry to say your screwed. Shotgun is what you need and lots of ammo. Wait for them to get close then pop their heads clean off with the shotgun.
