View Full Version : How bad would you like to own an ARX-160?

Mods.... please delete if thread is inappropriate.

For the longest time I am fixed with AR rifles and kept ignoring newer rifles that were coming out in the market. I missed the craziness when the FN-SCAR and the other plastic rifles came out. Lately, I saw the Beretta ARX-160 and, in my opinion, I can see a big potential for this rifle to make it really good for civilian market. Unfortunately, the manufacturer will not be selling the rifle to the civilian market yet.

So, how bad would you like to own the ARX-160? Of course, the semi-auto one.

Wow, what's up with that pistol grip? It looks uncomfortably skinny. Don't think I'd want one; currently at the top of my "buy it if I could" list is a Tavor. :43:

That was on the top of my list too. But I don't see it coming for a civilian market purchase. It has been out since 2001 and I haven't heard any plans for civvy's to own it.

But it would be nice if they would. Just looking at this picture:

Would love it if we could utilize the folding stock, all the mag releases, and ofcourse the pistol grip. Otherwise, I'm fine with my featureless AR's.

For a good review jump to about 17:53. The rifle looks to be the best thought out of all these style guns. The one I would buy if it were available.

I like it a lot, but considering what a CA version would be like I would pass here most likely. Although if the price is right in the Nutnfancy review then maybe. I must say I like the interchangeable barrel system.

Meh, already closely resembles an AR-15. Been there, done that.

- I dont care about changing my barrel
- I dont care about the ambi features
- I already have a piston in my gun and it runs flawlessly
- AR-15's can already switch out calibers in less than 30 seconds (swap upper)
- AR's aren't plastic
- AR's have TONS of options and customizations
- AR's are battle proven
- AR's dont have to cost $2300, provided you're not an idiot

Need I go on? You're paying much more for something "different", nothing more, nothing less. If you feel the need to break the mold from the masses, then that's your call. Meanwhile, I'll stick to what I know already works.

That thing is hideous. I don't know all the in's and out's of that rifle but it seems to me you can't take it down without having to fold the stock which means your going to have to go with some sort of barrel extension to meet CA OAL requirements. I really hate most the esthetics of long guns that come from Italy minus their shotguns.

I don't know when this was conceived but to bad they missed the boat about people complaining about not being able to switch out a PG on the ACR.

I don't get why everyone is bad mouthing this rifle without A) having held it or B) before it's even come out.

Basically, everyone's arguments are at the SAME time comparing and contrasting it to the AR or ACR or SCAR. When you say "wow this rifle FAILS because it's not the AR" basically you pass judgement for Anything that isn't an AR down to the tiny springs/pins.

If you love your AR so much, super, it's a fantastic rifle. This is a completely different rifle that really only shares the same calibre and magazines. Also, don't fault Beretta/the-gun for it's folded-stock dissassembly, blame the voters in this state for electing such morons that have foisted such stupid laws upon us. If not, go ahead and google-translate your email into italian to the Beretta engineers and tell them why their design sucks so much, because you live in a state that requires an extra 4" of overall length and so you can't fold your stock.

Yes it's polymer/plastic, so are glocks. So are G36's, AUG's, UMP's, ETC. Shoot, most of a PMAG is plastic, so those must really suck, right? Look at the SCAR's aluminum portion, that's not exactly cold hard durable steel. Oh and where are SCAR's promised barrel options? Yeah.. it's been a year+ now and nothing.

As to the bulkiness, if it was rail thin and looked like a kel-tec SU, people would claim that it's a flimsy pos and will break on the first zombie's face you smack it on. Yeah it looks big, but it's got a lot going on in the receiver area, they need the room to put the guts. Look at the FS2000. Yeah it's a bullpup design, but that thing is like wielding a watermelon.

Is it Mall Ninja? For sure, but if you're reading this thread, that's the game we're in, baby!! You want 'legitimate' non-mall-ninja charlton-heston shooting guns, stick with the Winchester Model 70.

I for one, think this thing looks awesome, I like space-age guns, I always have, you can keep your derringers and brown-bess's :P

Hopefully this thing comes out before 3rd Qtr 2012, and at under $2,000 (fat chance of that price-point happening, I bet they keep it on SCAR level of ~$2,400+). But seriously, if you're hatin' on the unseen, at least check out the NutNFancy shot-show preview linked in this thread.

Don't take it personal, some people don't take to change very well. Those are the same arguments they had against the M16 when it replaced the M14/Garands. They used to call the M16 the "toy" gun or the "Mattel plastic gun" back in the 60's. It was also the same arguments about the 5.56 round being to small when it replaced the .308. I fell asleep in math class but not history :p Whether we like it or not Piston will be replacing DI, polymer will replace metal and Drones will be replacing pilots. Our kids will be fighting with laser rifles by the time some of these old timers give up their AR's.

That being said, if SHTF and I could only choose one rifle regardless of price...it would still be my AK. To each his own.
