So here is my dilemma, I want to shoot for cheap. I'm debating whether to buy a dedicated .22 upper for the AR, they go from $270-$380 depending on brand and sights that come with it, or Ruger 10/22. Ruger is about $220 on sale, but with tax and DROS comes out to about $270. The thing about upper is that I would be honing out my iron sights skills, but the Ruger is another rifle in the collection. :D I also had a 10/22 when I was a kid and loved that thing. Decisions, decisions.

I'd go with the 10/22. Shooting .22 out of an AR got old fast. Ymmv

10/22 just says all day fun in my world. You know it's true! What's one more rifle? :)

An extra rifle is better then a conversion to me. I also think most everyone should have a 10/22 handy.

What about a 22 adaptor, like the ciener or something?

Keep in mind, you'll need a scope for that 10/22 unless you like that type of sight. I'm even worse with those than the sights on my AR. I'd go for it, tho. Gotta love being able to switch over to .22 and keep shooting so you don't go completely broke popping off 25+ cent rounds.

I bought my 10/22 from another calgunner and love that thing. It's so cheap to shoot. I got a little bullpup stock for it also. It's a very accurate, cheap fun little plinker.

Make sure to keep an eye on the market place for CG's selling 10/22's. I would also suggest checking out this website. They have some really awesome deals going sometimes. You just have to hope that you catch them at the right time.

HA! I like that rifle too, but if I was going that route I'd buy SR-22 which I just like better.

Call me a noob, but I just don't feel that this is done right. I did look into it though.

I like the sights on 10/22, never had a problem nailing a target when I was a kid.

I keep looking 15 times a day on both :D. I missed one here in SD somebody was selling for $220-$250 with 3 mags, case, cheap scope.

An extra rifle is better then a conversion to me. I also think most everyone should have a 10/22 handy.

I agree.

so much fun stuff you can do with a 10/22

I sure did back in the day when I had one.

I was leaning towards 10/22 anyway. I just wanted to hear opinions, much appreciated. And if for some reason majority of you would have voted for AR upper followed by strong supporting arguments, I may have been convinced.

EDIT:
Oh yeah, I just found out (I completely forgot) that I have just over $110 tied up in my google adsense account for a youtube video I posted couple of years ago. So I see that as getting $110 discount on a 10/22 :D

I say if you plan on modifying it in any way, get the 10/22. If you are going to keep it as a plain old plinkster to hone irons and enjoy shooting smallbore, get a Marlin 60. Factory 18 round tube, almost always more accurate out of the box (debatable but its MY opinion) and its a tried and true action that keeps going with little maintenance.
