View Full Version : More MN than KISS

This is how it sets now in the what if experiment.
With eighteen custom parts on the HD carbine, it leans towards cluttered over KISS design. Ken doll is decked out with 2 AAs, 2 cr123 and a lithium disc battery.

I sure can value the optics. A 3x9 is bees knees in the hunt. A reddot for CQB,run-n-gun or offhand. All at a bulk and weight price. All guns need the best sights available for it purpose. Only hits count. $$$ and weight are required in the quest for performance.

Flashlights are good only at night. A thumb screw is a must. Still leaves you with an all day rail for mounting, with its weight and clutter.

Lasers are just plain fun. Red is OK at night or in an indoor range. Green takes it to the day. Size ,weight and most importantly durabillity are directly related $$$. Frivilous but fun. Would be the first thing removed in a quest for simplicity.

Of the eighteen parts only nine could be removed for any benefit.

Not counting the extended takedown pin, 45degree rail mount , camo wrap , rail covers or magpul mags. That is a bunch of crap. Right guys? how much of it stays on your gun? Lets hear about the not so simple rigs.

Put some more effort into your writting so we can understand your point.

Here is a three step process to any successful presentation that also translates well to writing a forum post.

Step 1: Tell us what you are going to tell us.
Step 2: Tells us
Step 3: Tell us what you just told us.

It also helps to use a sentence and paragraph structure that make sense.

Allow me to translate. My Father in law writes like this and over the years I have learned to translate.

This is how it sets now in the what if experiment.
With eighteen custom parts on the HD carbine, it leans towards cluttered over KISS design. Ken doll is decked out with 2 AAs, 2 cr123 and a lithium disc battery.

This is the current configuration if my home defense rifle. It has over 18 custom parts and is much more cluttered than a KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) build would be. The rifle currently sports enough electronic gadgets that my battery requirements are as follows.
2AA batteries
2 cr123 batteries
1 Lithium disc battery

I sure can value the optics. A 3x9 is bees knees in the hunt. A reddot for CQB,run-n-gun or offhand. All at a bulk and weight price. All guns need the best sights available for it purpose. Only hits count. $$$ and weight are required in the quest for performance.

I like optics. A 3x9 scope is very useful when hunting. A red dot sight has many applications including close quarters battle, run-n gun, or offhand shooting. The trade off these additions is your rifle is bulkier and weighs more, but in my opinion sights are extremely important. The advantage provided by these upgraded optics outweighs the increased bulk and weight, especially in an environment where hitting the target is paramount. But be prepared to spend a fair amount of money and add weight to your rifle in the quest for an optimal sighting system.

Flashlights are good only at night. A thumb screw is a must. Still leaves you with an all day rail for mounting, with its weight and clutter.

When adding a flashlight to your weapon make sure it has a thumb screw so you can remove it during the day when it is not needed. Although you can remove the light, you still have the weight of the rail you were using for a mounting point.

Lasers are just plain fun. Red is OK at night or in an indoor range. Green takes it to the day. Size ,weight and most importantly durabillity are directly related $$$. Frivilous but fun. Would be the first thing removed in a quest for simplicity.

Laser sights are fun but in reality unneeded. Green lasers are brighter and more useful in daylight, but will cost you more money. If you are looking to reduce the amount of unneeded clutter on your rifle or carbine I would consider removing a laser sight first.

Of the eighteen parts only nine could be removed for any benefit.

Of the 18 custom or after market additions to my rifle I can only see the benefit of removing half of them.

Not counting the extended takedown pin, 45degree rail mount , camo wrap , rail covers or magpul mags. That is a bunch of crap. Right guys? how much of it stays on your gun? Lets hear about the not so simple rigs.

In addition to the 18 custom parts mentioned earlier I also have an extended takedown pin, a 45 degree rail, camo wrap, rail covers and Magpul magazines. That seems like a lot, even to me. I would like to hear from others on this forum who have eschewed the KISS philosophy for the "more is better" philosophy that I am currently following.
