View Full Version : Most Ergonomic Rifle Platform?

Now I already know that the overwhelming winner is probably going to be the AR-15. That's the platform that 90% of us know about and have experience with. But I want people to think about this: does it really have the best ergonomics?

Yes, I know some of the rifles listed above are not platforms, but are instead more specific models. I just thought it would be simpler this way.

I honestly don't have an opinion, much less one that I can back up, because I have a relatively small amount of knowledge concerning non-American firearms. I can only assume that they are all different.

All internals/performance/historical accomplishments aside, which type of rifle is the best extension of the human arm?

If you have an opinion that I did not list in the poll, please feel free to share.

I'm willing to bet that anyone who votes for the G3 has never fired one, great rifle but the ergos look better in pictures than in your hands.

Most Ergonomic gun I ever fired was a customized 10/22 with a hand made thumbhole type stock with finger grooves. The LOP on it was perfect for me and the forward grip had little indentations where your fingers should rest. It was PERFECT!!!

I've only handled the AK, AUG and AR-15, and prefer handling the AR by far.

Why is the K98 on there but not the Garand?

Ironically enough, my Mosin 91/30, the second gun I ever owned, fits me like a glove. The LOP is great, and shouldering it brings my eye right in line with the sights almost perfectly. Perhaps it's just that I have more rounds through that gun than almost any of my other guns, but it feels like it was made for me even though objectively, it's a clunky Russian plowhorse with fewer refinements even than it's contemporaries.

I found the P-90 to be the most comfortable weapon I have shot without personal customization.

I have shot half of these weapons and I can tell you without a doubt the most ergo weapon is......The one you have. That's it! First round knockout! :D Thur is no "most ergo rifle", killa. My body and yours are to different along with lives and training. If this is opinion based good to go but if this turns into a pissin contest I'm just gonna have to sit back and laugh. :lurk5:

I've only shot the SKS and AR15 out of that list (did get to hold an AK if that counts), and the AR15 is the most "comfortable" gun I've experienced. Although I hardly have any variety when it comes to guns I've shot, I'm glad I made the AR15 my first gun.

The most ergo rifle I ever shot was my custom 308 in an AICS stock . . . it fit me like a glove and I've literally fallen asleep behind it. However, from the list it'd be an AR15.

In terms of most ergonomic I like the AR platform and the FS2000. When I was checking out the FS2000 I liked how the sights lined up instantly for me as soon as I raised it up.

Depends...I'm too big to ever be really comfortable with an A2 AR-15. My M1 and M1A fit me much better. Haven't shot most on your list, but my Mauser is comfortable for a 6'4" man to shoot. AK is a joke if you're tall, made for Easterners wearing heavy winter coats.

I have no issue with my AK, but Im only 6' 1"

Having a redot set up "Russian" style helps a lot with it.

Ergo's are subjective to the shooter. I've got PTR-91's & a Greek Sar-8. 100% reliability combined with outstanding accuracy = winner in my book. Plus, factory HK mags are $.99. And yes the brass is reloadable.

ACR not found. AR has some really ****ty ergonomics on charging, etc though it's familiar as hell and most of us have learned to live with it.

acr followed by the hk91 because I like the longer handguard which BM hasnt yet made for the acr which has a non recip charging handle and feels more sold than the hk

No M1A / M1 Garand? I like the feel as long as I'm using irons. Ergonomics drop off fast though trying to use a scope and a factory stock.
