The inherted a Ruger Standard Pistol without any mags. The catalog # RTS-6 6"barrel serial # 17-*****. Can he assume that it is a Mark 1?

A Mark I is a bull barrel. If it has the regular barrel it's just a Standard.

A Mark I will be labeled as such on the left side of the receiver and have an adjustable rear sight.

They were available in 5 1/4" and 6 7/8" tapered barrel, and 5 1/2" bull barrel.

Thanks for the info, it looks like it is a Standard will a Mark 1 mag fit it? The gun was made in the early 80's and looks very good shape for the age. too bad the mags are missing.

I think you have to swap the button on the mag follower to the other side.

Easy to do. Just slide the follower down to the wide spot in the slot and push it out, push it back in from the other side.
