Haven't had the chance to fire this due to a busy work schedule but I've been fondling with it whenever I get the chance. I found something that got me worried, everytime I hold the bolt open by pulling the charging handle and then pushing the EBR to close it, it drops my magazine. Does anybody know what causes this?

Sounds like your mag isn't fully seating. Check the adjustment of your bullet button so that the mag catch is fully seating. You are pushing the mag out when you activate the EBR.

Is you mag release button fully tightened down? Not super tight, but perhaps it's too loose and the slamming of the bolt into battery is jostling the magazine to fall. Turn the mag catch button a few rotation to help cinch up the magazine catch against the magazine.

Off topic- Is that a Troy ambi-mag release?

My guess would be the mag isnt fully seated make sure to click it in and give it a tug. Try it again.

Make sure your mag release has enough tension on it first.

my mag seats firmly but when i push the ebr to close the bolt, the mag drops right after the bolt slams close

chk spring on the mag. release it might be binding and not locking the mag properly. That's a nice rifle. I just finished building my 308 also, but it's a pistol

I would compare the length of the troy ambi to the stock mag holder deal. I know in order to use my Radlock with my Tactical machining lower I had to use an Armalite AR10 mag catch.

I would think that maybe the skull button wont let you tighten the catch down far enough.

These are old pics, I replaced the CTR with an EMOD stock for better cheek rest and I have been slowly changing the furniture back to black. All I need is a black MOE grip and optics

Don't mean to de-rail this thread, but what is that bolt catch thingy called? The thing that makes your right hand able to release the bolt.

It's called the EBR(extended bolt release) Version 2 from the company Phase 5 Tactical

Phase 5 Tacical (http://www.phase5tactical.com/products/) Good stuff. I'm using their trigger guard, EBR & Ambi charging handle on a few of my builds

Ahh. AZ. Is the skull head hanging up the catch? Is there any wear on the top of the mag from the bolt hitting it? Loaded or unloaded mags? What brand?

What do you mean? The skull sits perfectly just like a regular mag-release button. This is the skull mag-release button from Valkyrie Tactical.

Is there any wear on the top of the mag from the bolt hitting it?

I didn't notice any wear but I haven't really done it enough for it to cause wear on the mag lips.

Loaded or unloaded mags? What brand?

Happens only to unloaded mags. I tried it on a loaded mag and the mag didn't drop. I'm using the Magpul 308 mags

I cant remember 100%, but are you sure you have the right LPK installed? I remember there being some differences in the mag catch, either between ar-15 and AR-10, or between AR-10 and LR .308.

I'm not sure which one the MA-TEN takes.....I'm guessing its the DPMS LR .308 one...

It's your rifle, telling you,

"WARNING! You have an unloaded firearm! (drops mag) Please insert a loaded magazine."

:D

Check the spring tension on the mag release. It may be a bad spring. Also, check the "mag release notch" in the mag. It may be rounded off. Sounds like your bolt is slamming into the follower (doesn't happen on a loaded mag) and jarring the mag out.

The only difference between the AR10 and AR15 mag catches is the length of the threaded rod, and there is a slight bend on the AR10 catch area.

Hmmm... this may be the issue. The AR10 catch engages "deeper" into the receiver/mag notch.

OP- try an AR10 mag release/catch.

OP- try an AR10 mag release/catch.

You sure that would work on a LR .308 PMAG? I'd think it wouldn't line up with the notch properly.

All I know is that the MA-TEN definitely works with PMAGS, so that **should** mean that LR .308 mag catches need to be used in this rifle.

Again, I'm not 100% on this....just thinking out loud.

Does that mean I need to replace my Troy ambi mag-release and the skullhead mag-release button?
