Found a Burris XTR scope on eBay. Seller claims the scope is new, but I asked for pictures anyway.

From the pictures, the adjustment knobs are scratched a bit, I think. So, I called up Burris Support and see what is the cost for replacement knobs. The gentleman who answered the phone told me, he would send me new knobs for the used Burris scope free. That sounded great, so I bid on the item. What I should not do was send an email to the seller asking the reason why the knobs looked kind of scratched up. Seller retracted my bid, left a note on eBay saying that I was trying to scam him/her, and send me an email telling me that those are lithium grease marks, not scratches and calling me an a***h*le.
What do you think?

i see ring marks

perhaps it is like new but it has been mounted before.

Also if the seller reacts that way for a simple question its best to steer wide of them.

Oh well. His loss. You can get it new from Big River Tactical for $600 give or take, depending on which model you want.

Not in my view for two reasons:

1- You can clearly see the markings from the scope rings on the tube. This scope had been mounted and thus it is a logical to conclude that this is a used scope.

2- I believe that just like a car is used the second it exits the dealer lot, the same exists for other products. If you are not the original buyer, it is not new, but "like new".

It has been mounted for sure! And I second stator's opinion. I would say that it is used. Besides, that guy kind of sounds like a jerk. What was his ebay name? I guess it doesn't matter. I stopped using ebay a couple of years ago after finding out how anti gun they are.

Thank you all for making me feel better :D
I guess I will be looking for a new scope else where. Maybe Big River Tactical.

In any case, +1 for Burris Customer Service. I still can't beleive that they are willing to send me new knobs for free.

Yeah, this is a used scope.

Lithium grease? WTH is he doing with that?

Yes, some of the marks on the knobs may not have photographed very well and they could be 'grease' marks - or they could be wear marks.

Get it new at SWFA/Riflescopes.com. You'll be happier.

Burris has great support, and is now a division of Beretta.

I concur the scope is used. If you are an A-H then we all are. What a putz, you were still bidding on it he should have just replied instead of being what he called you.

I think it would be great of you posted a link so we could all give the seller a hard time about his incorrect definition of "new". It is amazing that the seller is offended by legitimate questions about an item for sale, and would call you a ******** for asking! Calling an item new, when it has been used is a violation of Ebay policy.

Yes, you are correct, seller did say the scope was mounted and I should have stated this in my post, but my point was, by looking at the pictures, those knobs look scratched and some of the set screws on the knob have litle rust on them.
In any case, the ending bid was like $545, I would never bid that high and I hope the buyer is happy with the condition of the scope.
