Omniman's SGWorks 7.62x39 Bullpup project.
Never been fired, will have it out for a test run and sight in this Saturday @ Angeles.
I am very impressed with the fit and quality of the Shernic stock kit, it even improves the SKS's trigger a bit.

I don't see how that could work. Would bring new meaning to "in your face"

Look where the bolt/breach is in this "in progress" build picture......

Have you thought about cutting the barrel to 16" and having it threaded?

Yes, but decided against it. A cut and thread to M14x1 LH and install a AK74 style brake would be cool, but I like the can look, and why sacrifice accuracy
with a shorter barrel. No reason to spend $$ on a Cali length gun, now if I keep it @ my AZ place....shorten...real suppressor....hmmmmmm.

A paratrooper SKS with a threaded barrel would be cool, and legal in Cali in this stock.

I don't know man. The SKS accuracy isn't that great to begin with. The 4" less isnt going to make that big a deal since you are only losing accuracy at the 250 meter end. Its a close range blaster. The 4" less front end means tighter turns, less to snag on...

nice mod in any event.

True on the accuracy thing.

In current trim the gun is only 3/8" longer than PRK minimum length though.

Now in Arizona, cut down short with a legal suppressor & high cap detachable mags would make this an awesome close quarters action / home defender, eh? Can 7.62 be reloaded sub-sonic and still cycle reliably ??? hmmm

I am getting some requests. If I get enough potential orders, I will do a short run of 6 or 12. I need to test the prototype and make sure the attachment points are bulletproof under real fire and barrel heat this weekend. The first 2 I made are finished in Aluma-black, production ones would most likely be Duracoat. I need to develop pricing based on materials etc. for a short run.
It would have to be much cheaper than the MFI fake can ($125 bucks- http://www.mfiap.com/smallarms/m4-fake.shtml ), but still put a couple bucks in my gun fund to make it viable ;)

PM me if your interested, all.

No. But an AK is friken' cool on its own, I love mine. Not very accurate, but reliable and just historically badazz. The SKS, on the otherhand, is a proven workhorse and fairly accurate battle platform. This kit just brings it into a new level of tactical at 30"....I'm just say'n...... (it's leaning against my nightstand....the AK is in the gunsafe.)

I first saw this prototype kit at a gunshow in Phoenix back in May 2010. I ordered 2 stocks in August 2010, pre-production, waited over 9 months for production and first ordered first filled shipping. Some guys have waited a year. BUT, they are iin full production now, and filling back logged orders fast. I did a follow up order on the trigger kit and got it UPS in 3 days. Great customer service within the prodution capacity of a small company.

I dunno I just prefer detachable mags. Might haver to look into that m1a bull pup.

This weapon is fully capable of using high capacity detachable mags, and when I take it to my Arizona place, it will.Thats why I put the extended tactical mag release on it, it's just sporting Kalifornication legal trim now. Watch the Yugo 59/66 detachable mag tactical video on the Shernic website.

I guess it could be made "featureless" with a custom monsterman or some kind of mag lock installed.....I saw no reason to install a fixed Tapco aftermarket mag, the factory original loads smooth with stripper clips, and the gun looks sleek. I changed out the trigger and gas rod to be fully 922r compliant (I'm cooperat'in here, I'm in full compliance with your dopey f**kin ridiculous stupid rules, sir... Did I type that in my outside voice?)

That thing is incredible. The SKS, the assault rifle that saved California, has returned with a vengeance!

Have you thought about cutting the barrel to 16" and having it threaded?

I do not know why on Earth you would do that to a bullpup rifle, the whole point of which is to reduce overall length while still having a long barrel.

Range report...

I love it... Initial problems with trigger reset, but I think it was the brand spankin new Chinese SKS trigger/sear breaking in, combined with soft Fiocchi factory ammo loads. I went with Fiocchi because of the nice reloadable brass and the clean running, did not expect cycling issues. We played with the Shernic trigger take-up adjustment, but it still failed to reset intermitently until it had about 30 rounds through it, and I re-lubed the trigger groupe. The gun also had some ejection issues initially. Shells were getting caught under the deflector and pinched between the bolt and breech.

I had some fairly hot handloads that I worked up for the AK-47, and we ran those through it. What a difference. It cycled perfectly, ejected every shell nicely, and the gun was way more fun to shoot with the crisp recoil of a hot load. What a fun gun to shoot !! It is balanced very well, as Michael mentioned (thanks for the nice words on my "faux suppressor", I think it adds to the balance as well, no?)

The nice balance, front vertical grip, short profile and 2x red dot make accurate double taps a breeze. It groups in the 10 ring @ 25 yds, and groups palm size @ 100yds, off hand. I had no problem putting " two in the pumphouse & two in the switchboard " on a silhouette target @ 100yds, quick follow up shots.

Un-related to the performance of the SKS, Shernic stock kit, or ammo choice, but an operator error, look here: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=435978 DOH!!

Actually, I think Stalin used the SKS 7.62 AGAINST the Nazis in the very final days of WWII. Nazi autoloader would be a Sturmgewere or MP-40. Commies, Facists....both a-hole extremists, but they designed some artfull military weapons, both.

Maybe a well respected sore thumb, though ?? I live in a extremely Liberal heavy gay freindly neighborhood in Long Beach. I am considered CONAN THE BARBARIAN, but they will all run over here when the feces hits the fan, no doubt...

[QUOTE=osis32;6450599 What was the amount of expertise to install that kit.[/QUOTE]

Minimal expertise needed (got dremel?) The kits, I ordered 2, came numbered and hand matched/& fit to themselves from Shernic. There are about 9 zillion sks's out there from 10+ factories, so some individual fitting is needed. Shernic has done a nice job of including 2 maleable steel/oak action bedding blocks in the stock. These are easily fitted to your particular weapon for a snug fit with a dremel or even hand files. Simple.

They have something like that for an ak?

There is, but there's a fair amount of work to get it to run well:

Omniman, are you still able to fabricate that can for the sgworks bullpup? I have been looking all around for one.

Do they make a left handed version?

I fall into that bucket too.

I shoot lefty with both eyes open with the red dot on my AR. I think I could shoot an SKS bullpup righty with a red dot on it.
