My boss has offered to sell me a Rem 700 in .270. I believe it is the BDL as it has the hinged floorplate. The rifle was made in 1989. It has an old fixed 4x Burris scope, but the lenses look like the coatings are coming off. It has just been reblued as it had some major rust on the muzzle end of the barrel and some rust inside the bore at the muzzle. It still has a little rust in the bore at the muzzle. The stock has significant wear (dings/nicks and scratches)as it was used in the field quite a bit. What in your opinion would be a good fair value for both parties for this rifle? He has no interest in the rifle as it belonged to his father in law who passed away. Keep in mind Im doing him a favor by him not having to list the rifle for sale, show it to interested buyers who will flake out, etc...

Whatever you offer. It's found money for him either way

The scope won't be worth much, but a used walnut BDL should get about $400-$450 I would think.

Even after its been reblued and still has rust in the bore at the muzzle?

Brand new Remington 700s are in the $550-$600 price range. As stated above, the scope is worthless and shouldn't increase the overall value. I'd figure $250-$350 for that rifle.

I would be concerned about the rust in the bore. It may not shoot well. "I" would pass.....but then I also am not a big 270 fan.

That is about the price I was thinking too, though maybe as high as $400 depending on the how the rifle looks off of the stock.

As he is your boss, ask if you can remove it from the from the stock.

Read the post too fast on my phone. In that condition, I would think around $300.

700's are easy as pie to fix anything... give him 250 for it and shoot it, i bet it will still be a decent dear rifle.. if the barrel is SOL, order a new one...
