Pretty sure your nail would break before it activates the mag release. But yes that would be illegal. The nail is part of your body therefore it's not a tool. That's just my take on it.

Let's say SOMEHOW an LEO sees me manipulate my BB with my nail.

Is it illegal?

I'm a little concerned about the color.
Maybe see a doc and have a fasting test done to check your sugar balance.

DOJ already tried it, but it was ruled "unreasonable" (or some sh*t) and threw it out.

Sorry, but I can't recite the specifics, but you get the point.

Have you heard of Lubriderm? It strengthens nails because of the Biotin content. Moisturizes than hand as well

I think that would be real uncomfortable lol.

A bullet button requires a bit of force and the tool to be slender. I've used golf tees a couple of times but they break after one or two releases. Besides being illegal because it's attached to you and therefore not a tool, I doubt a nail would be strong enough.

Someone please correct me if i'm wrong, but i dont believe that having something ON you makes it illegal. Now, in the (freaky) scenario given, it is part of the person and illegal. BUT, i've seen and heard of people sewing in studs into the thumb of a shooting glove, then use that to release the bullet button.

Assuming that is legal, then why couldnt you make a thimble type device that holds onto the end of your finger? I would think that as long as it's not part of your body and is just a tool that attaches to your body, that this would be legal.

I dunno, I think a legal expert should chime in.

If you press and release the magazine with a finger, it doesn't need a tool, so it doesn't meet the legal definition...hense YOU are guilty.

now you shaped a fingernail to form a "tool".

the law doesn't hinge on "readily detachable", it hinges on if a "tool" is needed.

in the past we feared the DAs and DOJ going after us for "readily detachable". That has ended. We still may fear LEO interpretation of it, but in the end the DoJ and AG office wash their hands of a DA going that route in court. If a tool is needed the firearm qualifies as a fixed magazine firearm.

Not only would that spikey nail take 3 months to grow, but it would be considered a weapon. Also, good luck typing on the calguns forum with that finger!

I know guitar players that let their nails grow out like that (but not a spike) looks pretty gross.

IIRC, we did have one CG'er lose his OLL to a San Diego area LEA because they said that one of the ladies in the LEA office fingernail would fit in the hole and detach the mag. IIRC, the individual had other legal issues (with his son?) so he just walked away from it.

Alright thanks for the feedback guys.

By the way you don't know how long it took me to make it even *close* to looking like a finger...
