I'm going to be picking up a lower within the next couple days, my local ffl has te Fulton and CMMG brand. The guy said the CMMG is built better than the Fulton, is that correct? Also I know how to build an AR 223 so will it be the same way as to building it? And last which lpk and upper are compatible with each brand? Thanks!!!!

Sometimes there can be materials differences (what type of metal being used), and sometimes craftsmanship/QC can come into play, but generally speaking, there arent too many differences in lowers except for design. But be careful.....when you move up to .308/AR10, there is no milspec, so parts compatibility can widely vary. You pretty much have 3 options:

1) DPMS LR .308 (often called .308 AR)
2) AR-10 made by Armalite
3) Rock River Arms

Of these three patterned .308 AR styled rifles, DPMS has the upper hand in my book because of the magazines (PMAG). AR-10 is also nice, but more expensive, generally speaking. But I owuld avoid RRA, not because of rifle quality, but because of compatibility....I believe they are the only ones (maybe Bushmaster?) that make anything for their pattern, so if something breaks or needs replacement, you dont have much to choose from.

Fulton and CMMG (not the Mk G3 compatible version) I believe are both DPMS patterned. You cant go wrong with either of these. Get the one that is either cheaper or the one you think looks better.

As for building, pretty much the same, just bigger. Some minor differences are the set screws instead of roll-pins for the bolt catch. Nothing to be afraid of though. All is very easy......almost easier, IMO because everything seems to be bigger :)

Good luck.

You shop at River City Gun exchange, don't ya? I was just in there the other day and saw those lowers. LOL

Fulton makes GOOD stuff and at the end of the day the lower just holds the sum of parts. Pick the one you like the best and you can live with. I personally went with a Tactical Machining lower (River City doesn't carry them), and I LOVE it.

Its pretty much the same procedure as putting an AR-15 together with a couple of little things being different there are NO ROLL PINS (for the most part it depends on what they do for the trigger guard)

LPK's DPMS is going to be the easiest to find, probably work the best and I seem to remember them having a couple in stock.

if you use a transfer dealer that charges fairly you can order this from 762sass. They are Ar-10t pattern instead of dpms. you wont be able to run the pmags but the factory mags are pretty high quality. $284.95 is a good price. just a thought. Both patterns are fine it basically comes down to quality control on the parts you get.

Not bad for the price. Local ffl is charging 280 for Fulton and CMMG for 4xx.xx

I just finished this one last night . I hope to sight it in on wed. I chose the aeroprecision lower because it was armalite pattern and i could use the enhanced trigger gaurd. square gaurds irritate the hell out of my fingers.
