Is an Aimpoint ML2 scope good for an M4 type AR...? Does anyone have one to speak of....? What's better between an Ml2 and ML3....?

I have an Aimpoint comp 2 on my 16". I love it and think you would too. You might want to check out the Eotechs. They have a little more viewing area than the Aimpoint, but I like how long the batteries last in the Aimpoint.

I have a ML2 and it works just fine on my 20" AR. It's an ideal optic (imo) for an M4. When I can afford to get a 16" upper, the Aimpoint will find it's way on there.

The difference between the ML2 and the ML3 is the ML2 has a 10,000 battery life when the ML3 is 50,000.

For either, keep an eye on the Equipment Exchange over on Ar15.com and you will find an ML2 or so for a decent price (got mine for $275).

Good luck.

I agree, it's an excellent choice for an M4. I have the compML2, and it's great. It's especially fun for night shooting. I was hooked on it after I shot an M4 with it... Check out the pictures in my signature.

i'd go for the ml3. it's got beter battery life like stated before, and the dot is a bit smaller than the ml2 model. 2moa to be exact.

i use the ml3 on my m1a scout, on my ar i use an eotech 512.

the ML2 is not night vision capable. Not a big deal if you don't have night vision. The 4 MOA dot is large and, unfortunately for me, prone to look like an oval with my significant astigmatism. The eotech reticle is also slightly smeared to me but the trijicons are not.

Otherwise, the optic is constructed very well and has attachments to the windage, elevation, and battery caps so one doesn't lose them. There is also a slight blue tint when you view thru the optic.

Hope this helps.:)

There are also the clone aimpoints available for under $100 with mount. A friend of mine just got one and after inspecting it I'm wondering why I just spent almost $300 for a ML2. If you don't plan to use and abuse your aimpoint like the military, this could be an option.

I have a replica I got from ebay that works well. It blooms a little at night, but works fin in decent lighting. I paid $60 for it. I am planning on replacing the mount with a better one, but it works fine for now.

Why? because the best of the clones are still only a fraction of the product of the original article.

As an experiment I bought a couple of the ~$100 versions that all the guys on ARF were praising. After comparing them to my real AIMPoints, I gave them to my nephew for his Airsoft.

The control knob was just plain bad. They didn't hold zero after only a handful of rounds. One of them stuck in the on position after about 50 rounds, and needed to have the batteries removed to turn it off.

Be glad you have the real thing, I'll never buy another cheapie. My friend has one on the replica ACOGs, he swore was just as good as the originals.... Until I showed him my ACOG, now he knows he wasted $160 on that Chinese garbage. I personally don't think firearms are a good place to go cheap.

I always believed that you get what you pay for, but had to see if this case was an exception. I just learned that the guys on ARF either were Cheapskates, or wanted to believe after paying $100 that it was a good investment.

Try this dude: www.1337tactical.com
He can also be found in the arfcom EE selling the aimpoint clones. I ordered one last week. I've never used a red dot before so I didnt want to drop $300+ on something that might not work for me. If I like it, I will then be buying a real aimpoint.

Hey Sinner....

I would recommend if a buddy of yours has the real thing, try it.... due to the fact that the clone might let you down and you'll get a bad taste in your mouth from it....eventhough the real thing is much better. (hopefully I made sense, coffee hasn't kicked in:D )

My .02 is go w/ a ML3 vice the 2.....one reason is the battery life. They made double battery kits for the 2 since it ate up the batteries. The M3 model batteries last a looooooooonnnnnnnggggg time:D

I have a Comp ML2. Had it since 1998. Great optic. If I had to buy an Aimpoint again, I'd just go ahead and get the latest revision (ML3 or ML4, not sure what number they're up to).

As far as battery life, I have yet to change my battery since I bought it back in 1998. I even left the Aimpoint on for 4 months straight in storage. These things last a long time.

I'm not sure what brand it was or where he got it. It did not have a name on it. It had positive clicks and seemed sturdy. The dot didn't seem as sharp or defined as my ML2, but we're not doing any serious shooting so big deal. I compared it side-by-side with my ML2, and it seemed like a good copy to me. $400+ I spent on my ML2 + mount vs. $100 for his sight and mount, and he probably out shot me.
