It was 4.99 a couple months ago from Turners. I am personally out of stock on it. I'll have to find some brass and reload. I wish we could reload steel.

Why? Price gouging and supply and demand. If we all stopped hoarding ammo like there's no tomorrow and stop buying it for a month or two I bet the prices would start to come down again. I might see some justification for newly manufactured ammo, but there's no real reason for the surplus ammo that was made years ago to almost double in price over the last few months (like SA 308 surplus).

Prices always go up when a MFR gets a government contract and starts slowing supply to us commoners.

Wolf isn't contracted..... its made in russia. Wolf is only expensive atm because its the only 7.62x39 ammo that stores actually have or that aren't $10 for a box of 20.

Wolf is not contracted by the US gov't. It has a big contract to some unknown sources in the Middle East. Shhhh! It's a secret that a lot of people know;) .

The 7.62x39 ammo was rumored to be drying up due to an extremely large purchase for Afghanistan. I believe there is some truth to this rumor.

Other factors are also contributing to the surplus ammo cost and shortages such as; panic buying (market demand), UN pressure on countries to stop selling on open market, rises in gas and transportation costs, scrap metal prices and availability (calibers historically come and go from the surplus market).

The best deal you can find on Wolf classic was Century's $159.00 shipped for 1000 rounds, which was their last special on the 7.62 x39 ammo. Thats $3.18 a box which is still not to bad for a rifle cartridge.

Aim surplus has Golden Tiger 7.26x39mm for $149.00 per case of 1000.
From what I have read, people seem to like it better than Wolf.
The price does not include shipping.

Does anyone know if Golden Tiger is "Range Safe" copper jacket not steel?

Just found out my Wolf was very attracted to the magnet.

This is what I mean. There are a lot more countries than just us. When was the last time you saw cheap 303?

When I bought 3k from Rguns 5 moths back. :) The No.4 will never go dry... unless I do get the funds to start the .303 Vickers.

Remember like 1/2 a year ago... someone on the forum heard from someone at a shop that 7.62x39 would dry up real soon and to buy as much as possible.

He posted that encounter here and everyone was "WON'T HAPPEN" "He is lying to get you to buy" etc

Now look :(

Prices have been up for way over 1/2 a year though.

Golden tiger is magnetic.

The only plus to using fiocchi is you get to reload the brass. Since I'm not setup for that and I'm poor, I opt for the cheaper russian ammo. :(

I just thank jeebus the range that I go to doesn't give a damn whether your ammo is magnetic or made from unobtainium.

Bi-metal wolf(black box) is still cheap, only the copper jacket(black and yellow box) is expensive and that's what I bought at turners when it was on sale last week. It is still cheaper than alot of big-ish bore ammo out there. Hell, I about had the big "O" when I saw it was on sale, even redondo beach turners had it in stock!. Non -magnetic ammo is a bitter pill we swallow when ever we go to the range :(

Check the calendar lately? The 90's are over. I remember buying several boxes of Wolf for $2.19 after picking up my Romanian SKS at Turners.

I also remember buying Federal 5.56mm 55gr. XM193 for around $3 or $4 per box at Turners less than 5 years ago.

When Uncle Sam cuts back on "investments" in the Middle East, the ammunition manufacturers will court us again.

I remember when i bought my sks in the gun show, where you just pay for it and take it home the same day, wolf 7.62x39 ammo was $1.75 a box. I'm glad i bought cases. I'm still shooting it till this day.

ya, $90 per case of 1200 was the cheapest I'd ever paid for x39's. I'm almost out on those. Put me on ur list if u ever want to sell ur stash ok?:)
