Hey guys.

I have a dilemma. I have (2) uppers that I want to switch barrels on.

I have a 20" barrel on an A1 upper

I have a XM177 style barrel on an A2 upper

I have a 14.7" M4 barrel on an A3 upper.

I want to put the XM177 barrel on the A1 upper, and swap the 14.7" M4 barrel onto the A2 upper, and then put the 20" on the A3 upper, or use it for another build or something.

Whats the best way to go about doing all this???

I want my XM177 clone to be SHTF-proof, and I like the A1 sights for that (KISS build)

I want the M4 to have a carry handle and a rear sight, and the 20" upper I don't use at all as it is.... In fact I don't even want it.

Advice?

Well you could either hook up with someone here who is close to you and has the tools, or you could invest in a vise, action block and barrel wrench... And download the instructions on Arfcom.

I would always suggest getting the tools. They come in handy when you want to build or upgrade, or fix busted stuff. Besides, part of the fun of having AR's is saying "I built it myself.":D

Here is a link to some instruction on changing the barrel (http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782) from arfcom (ar15.com) that Tzvia was talking about.

If you're planning on traveling to the SF bay area let me know, I've got all of the tools except a punch to remove the gas tube roll pin (broke it off in my finger  ).

Anychance I could send you the upper for a small fee or something? I know I dont want the 20" upper at all...

Maybe we could work some kinda trade ariound??

I don't like A3 uppers at all, and a 20" is a lot longer than I need.

I dunno what brand it is, other than its hella old and in reallu good shape. I dont do retro/tacticool, so maybe you can find a homoe for it.

Is your M4 barrell a Colt 1/7 twist?
Is the the A3 upper a Colt with the M4 feed ramps?
What kind of flash suppressor / muzzle brake do you have attached to the end of the barrell?

I have a Colt A2 upper with M4 feed ramps and Colt 1/7 M4 14.5" barrell with a permantly attached 2" A2 "type" muzzle brake.

Would be open to trading for yours.
