View Full Version : Remington 597 22 Magnum

I was thinking of buying a used Remington 597 in 22 Magnum - I presume this is a "used to be" 17 HMR. I know nothing of the guns, but since I don't have a 22 Magnum semi I was thinking of picking one up - what's the good and bad of this model in general and is there anything specific to the 22 Magnum version, such as reliably feeding that long case or less than decent accuracy?

I've heard magazines can be a problem and that replacing the extractor is a good idea. Beyond that, I know nuthin'.

I bought one of these new in 2004. I still haven't been able to put more than 3 rounds through it at a time. In fact I've fired it only 50 times total. Nice fit and finish but reliable .22 Magnum semi's are scarce. Rimfire Central has any and all fixes. Hope this helps.
