View Full Version : 22 mag ammo recommendations for 1:16 twist? (savage 93)

Just picked up a Savage 93 FVSS. My local shop sells alot of heavy weight ammo in 22 mag, 40, 45, 50, and 55 grain ammo. I bought a box of 40 and a box of 50 grain ammo today. Anybody have a similar rifle? Does it like the lighter (30/32/36 grain) stuff or work well with the heavy bullets?

Not really. As with nearly all 22 rimfire rifles they tend to like/dislike various ammos. Best to buy a box of each and see which one groups the best. My Marlin 925M likes the CCI 40 gr Maxi-Mags. Hates the 45/50 grain. Another thing I noticed about my rifle is after the barrel heats up (maybe 40-50 rounds) the POI drops an inch at 100yards and stays there until the barrel cools then back to POA=POI. YMMV
