I'm looking to a new 9mm upper for an ar pistol. It is chambered in 223 and built on an aero precision multi cal marked lower. I can't recall the LPK but it does not have a notched hammer. Pistol length buffer tube.

Can I buy a spikes or rra 9mm upper, slap it on, get a 9mm magwell block like this

http://www.riflegear.com/p-397-rra-9mm-magwell-conversion-block.aspx

or this kit

http://www.riflegear.com/p-400-complete-9mm-lower-parts-conversion-kit-for-carbine-stock.aspx

and rock and roll? What do I need to worry about as far as cycling, buffer tube length, buffer and spring?

Anything else I am not thinking about?

thnx

Need a 9mm buffer. Good luck with the mags, stay far away from Promags. C Products seem to be a lottery.

I always thought the appeal of AR pistols was the rifle round from a pistol... why a 9mm AR pistol and not just a 9mm pistol?

don't think about practicality, think about how sick its going to look

With the RRA or Spikes uppers; if the bolts arent ramped youll need a 9mm hammer.

Mine is a CMMG upper that came with a ramped bolt so as long as my hammer wasnt notched I was GTG with a 9mm buffer and magwell block.

Why ask why?

More accurate for longer range. Mine is still a single shot, it gets old loading one round at a time but saves ammo.:D

I'm just curious, because I'm thinking my next ar will be either a pistol or 9mm carbine...

nah, the appeal is its as close as I can get to a SBR in Ca...

outside of legal definition, calling these things pistols just aint right.

In my past readings on this subject I thought you also needed (maybe not need, but it may be beneficial) to have a 9mm hammer also?

It is a pistol by definition. I would rather call my AR Pistol a "Pistol" than a SBR.

no arguments here, esp if the DOJ or ATF folks are reading this ;)

Im speaking from a practical point of view.
Perhaps PDW would be a better description.

Speaking of pistols, if only importation barriers werent what they are...
In the Philippines you can get revolvers chambered in .556!

from what I understand there are some BCGs that allow for using the standard hammer. Makes it easier to go from 9mm to other cal on the same lower

So no matter what swapping between a 223 and 9mm upper can't be done because they use different buffers? Are the buffer tubes the same length or does that not matter?
All this assuming a ramped bolt and a non notched hammer

I use H buffer on my 9mm & 5.56 upper
