Hey, just joined this forum after being recommended by my boyfriend. Bought my first gun two days ago- Glock 19. I live in LA and in the process of applying to local police departments. If anyone knows of any departments hiring please let me know.

I pick up my gun from Island View Enterprises in Ventura on fri the 13th. The guys there are really cool and gave me a great deal. I highly recommend this shop. They were very helpful and patient with me, considering I was a first timer.

Here's a pic of my gun :)

Good choice. My son just took the entrance exam for the San Diego Sheriffs department. They told him it's about a six month process to determine if you are accepted for the academy.

Thanks! Leaning more towards city patrol, but I'll give them a look.

Perfect first pistol. If I had to do it all over again, my Glock 19 would have probably been my first one too.

CHP isn't taking applications right now. I was looking into trying out recently.

Welcome.

A 2nd Gen G19 is one of my more recent purchases. The Glock Safe Action pistol is definitely an iconic handgun for sure.

Best of luck finding a dept near you. Just keep on applying.

Nice choice, the 19 is my favorite model plus the grip fits my wife's hands well, so it's a bonus. Good luck finding a job - it'd be nice if the department has G19's as an optional duty gun so you'd already be used to it.

False.

CHP is NOT hiring. The 4/2010 class that just graduated is the last class in the academy as of now, there are no scheduled academy classes. All hiring processes have been put on hold.

Great pistol choice. Good luck on the search. I've been looking for a department hiring in the bay area who would sponsor for the academy. Budget cuts aren't helping though..

Wait!!! Don't most LEO's use the G23/22 in .40S&W? Or is this your off duty weapon?

She's not on yet; still looking at application process.

Welcome and superb choice of first handgun! I'm not a Glock fanboy but they are great pistols, priced reasonably, and a good platform to learn to shoot. Enjoy and good luck with the app process. Times are tough but be patient.

Now you've raised the bar fairly high for all your future handgun purchases.

Great choice, I had a glock 23 w/ lone wolf 9mm conversion barrel/g19 mags for a while and loved it. I traded it for a converted saiga ive been dying to get my hands on, luckily i picked up another glock. A G19 this time. I love the 9mm round.

A Glock 19 is an excellent first choice. Soon you'll be addicted to Glocks, and will want to collect them all lol.
