Going to a property in the Sierras this weekend. Bringing the WASR10(7.62x39) and AR15(.223)(hopefully if my new bcg comes before friday night). Most likely shooting at some nice fresh vegies/fruits for a fun little weekend. My question, what ammo will give the best show for a watermelon exploding at roughly 50 yards? Regular FMJ ball ammo? Varmint hollow points ? there is about a 15% chance the BCG will come in time so im counting on only bringing the AK. any recommendations would be awesome. appreciate it largely. thanks!

EDIT: bringing Mosin Nagant as replacement for AR15. is the 7.62x54r a big enough round to show off, or shall i bring some special ammo.

Hollow points and soft points seem like the way to go.

High speed camera is what you'll want to really use. Something that has capabilities to shoot 600-700 frames per second

anything topped with a polymer tip, such as the vmax. Explosive fragmentation is fun to watch

FUD. Totally and completely legal. Even armor-piercing rifle ammo's legal.

not trying to be a dick but you've been around for 475 posts and am wondering if hollow point ammo is legal...

if you get that .223 running get a box of these. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=3bf_1204463788

For that 54r get a box of brown bear 203gr soft points.

And for the AK (it's like a point blank shotgun blast when it hits the target)http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/default.aspx?productNumber=410492 with VID!!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRap6lI9QBc

alright guys so i went shooting this weekend! Only brought the AK with 40 rounds of soft points and 40 FMJ. Turns out, the melons only fall over with nothing exciting with FMJ... on the other hand, the soft points EXPLODED IT!! was awesome. Also, my buddy's 45Gr. JHP .223 did the same. was Great! Thanks for the help!!
