My GF is going to kill me for pondering this thread but basically here's what I got so far (as in what I currently have, some people seem to be misunderstanding this one :) )
P226 DAK - .40
1911 - .45
P220 - .45
XDm - 9mm
Ruger hunter mark III -.22

I'm considering maybe a glock 17/19, P226 SA/DA 9mm, or maybe an HK P30
any other recommends? I'm pretty certain I want to go 9mm... maybe even a revolver instead?

Add a Glock17 to your family, or the famous p226.
I have p226 in .40, love it. My next gun purchase is Glock 17

OP- G17 or G19, just call me "fanboy" I guess. It's not on your list, but I would also look into the Ruger SR9 or SR9c, seems like a lot of gun for the money.

oh boy....
What I find odd is a few posts have suggested what I already have....
I was about to jump on a glock 19c but I heard some negative things about them.

Also if I do get a glock, gotta decide 19 vs 17 (pretty sure i'm going 9mm for glock)
and then Gen 3 or pay the extra to get a Gen 4

As for the ruger SR9, from the one I saw in the range, it was FTE and Jamming like crazy, so staying away from ruger centerfire pistols.

I also vote for a wheelgun - of any kind.

All those boxy ones need a curved beauty to balance things out.

Thanks for letting me know that about the ruger, I have only held it and never fired. Was thinking about getting one, but now I will think twice (will still try to rent one). As far as the 17 vs 19, I personally went with the 17. I just liked the full size better (carry is not a concern with me) and it's the "original" glock which started it all if that matters any. I plan to have it for many decades to come. I would go with gen 3 (if your in cali you have little choice unless you single shot it). I have read a few problems with the gen4, in my opinion I dont see the extra $$$ being worth it and love my gen 3 17. Good luck in your choice.

Nothing wrong with the Plastic or alloy frame guns, but if you want a Classic, look at a Browning Hi-power. they are an Elegant and Sexy looking pistol. Some say, the best 9mm for the money. they are Pricey unless you look high and low for an Israeli p.d. trade in. My favorite 9mm. Steel and wood.

Get a wheelgun, everyone should have at least one in their collection. Older pre-lock S&W 686 or Ruger GP100.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to that. Most common reason people have problems with semi auto pistols is they limp wrist them. And if it was a rental, it has probably never been cleaned.

That said, buy what feels good in your hand and lines up instinctively. If you stay with glock, sig, ruger, h&k, FN you are not likely to go wrong.

Ruger SP101 is pretty tame with .357 loads, I like it a lot. If you want an auto and like the Glock platform, then a 17 would be nice. I don't like Glocks... in a striker fire pistol, I would choose an M&P9 (however, needs trigger job) or an SR9.

i would say glock but they are so boring .
no p226 since you have one in .40 (why no get a conversion barrel to shoot 9mm).
soo get the hk p30, only because i want one too.

Here we come to save the day...

OP, nice collection so far but yes you need a Glock. I get a lot of flack for saying and thinking this but the Glock is the modern day 1911. They are both simple but magnificent designs. What other handguns follow the principle of parsimony?

I considered doing the 9mm conversion, but I'd like a DA/SA p226.

So far it sounds like maybe I need to pick up a wheel gun and a glock for my next one. Maybe in a month or so I'll go hit up some gun rentals. I'm pretty curious about the p30

Beretta 92FS might be a good option. Give you a Beretta to add to the collection and a little something different.
Glock 17 might also be a good option. Adds the G to the armory and can be used and abused without worry. No touchy lube requirements, etc.
S&W M&P is the best choice though. Why? Because I own one and like it (Come on it's an honest answer). :p

My next hand gun is going to be a revolver. I don`t have one yet.

The 500 mag is an extremly uncomfortable gun to shoot. Got to try one and wouldn`t even consider getting one.

Having 2 or 3 of the same makes for spare parts in case of emergency, lots of magazines, and familiarty. For example 3 Glocks or 3 Wilson combats etc.

Whils I have been shooting a Browning HP since 1973 I would say a Glock or XD is way way nicer to shoot. When growing up my son never picked the Hi Power he grabbed the XD. Though Hi Powers are the most beautiful 9mm ever .

Since you did mention the HK P 30 that would be my choice. Several hoops to jump thru getting one, but they hold their value and can be sold in 10 minutes here in Californistan.

But, being a Glock Fanboy I have to say that the CORNERSTONE of everymans collection should include a couple of GLOCKS.

Mainly the GLOCK 17 or 19 in 9MM.

For a fourth gun the Ruger Hunter Mk3 would be a lifetime Keeper..they just run and run and offer up loads of fun and cheap range time. In fact, get several good .22s as time goes by.

Then a nice wheel gun in .357. SW for me; ruger does wheel guns correctly.
(not too excited about Ruger auto pistols however)

Also consider a large GUN SAFE and getting into reloading eventually.

:D

700rds through my Ruger SR9 1 FTE on the third round when I first got it. So far no problems and its accurate.

If you're considering a DS/SA 226, but want something different, what about a Beretta M9/92FS?

Both are full metal, DA/SA, decocker, and I personally love the look and feel.

I may be bias though, because I do own both a 226 and a 92FS. Love them both.

Same here, can't go wrong with a Sig Sauer or a Beretta. But then again you can't go wrong with any of your choices, just try them all out dude.

Glock Gen 3. Don't bother with Gen 4 unless you are just dying to have a different back strap on the gun (or ambi-release). Between the 19 and 17.. it really depends if you want the gun bigger or smaller. Some people's hands don't agree with the size of the 17, so go with the 19 in that case.

You definitely can enjoy a nice revolver to your collection. Since you already have a couple .45 ACP pistols, what about a S&W 625 that can also shoot your .45 ACP ammos?

I have a S&W 625 Jerry Miculek. It is one big revoler, much fun to shoot, and accurate too.

Dam, I forgot all about CZs....
That .45 revolver sure looks like fun :)
shooting .45 is just so damn expensive.... maybe .44 magnum then :D?

I think based on the comments i'm going to go for a glock 17. Def the cheapest of the suggestions.
Then maybe a wheelgun next so maybe some suggestions on that.

how do you rate the handguns already in your collection?

you've got a very good assortment representing the spectrum of automatics available.

(SAO, DAO, DA/SA, 'modern trigger')

what draws you to the glocks, the P30, the 226?

as has been said, you've got an acute lack of revolvers.

Here come the fanboys.......

I tell you bro I agree. Watch all the glockers come out. Heck I shot quite a few handguns before and to this day I still do not see the draw. Heck I will take any handgun over a glock just on comfort alone.

From that list I would pick:
Ruger MK III
1911

I went .45 for my first handgun and it was a M&P 45.
For my second handgun it was a 9mm FNP 9.
For my third which is still on order it was a Colt 1911 XSE.
Once I get the colt in hand, the last handgun I get before I go back to rifles (bought another WASR when I ordered the Colt) will be a Beretta M9A1.

Try before you buy. I shot all those gun except the FNP...The FNP nonetheless is a performer and am happy I took the advice of friends and did research. You should do the same and try before you buy and do your due diligence.

BTW the Ruger Mk III is a pretty cool gun. I am thinking of getting one for the wife as it was the first gun she shot when I was in WA. Your GF should not have a say...She is not married to you nor you married to her. YOU do this. If you are married it is a whole different ball game.
