When I was a kid (late 50s), my uncle bought out the ammo inventory of some big dry goods/hardware store. In the mess were thousands and thousands of rounds of Winchester .22 "Gallery Shorts". They were the same size as a regular short, but the bullets were made out of some pressed powdered graphite so they could be used in carnival shooting galleries. As soon as they hit something, they disintegrated. No ricochet. They were packed loose in boxes of 500. Since we lived on a ranch, he was glad to supply us with ammo to shoot varmints. Jackrabbits and muskrats, at close range, were fair game.

Does anyone else remember that ammo?
