My first gun was a Ruger P89. I beat the crap out of it to test it's reliabilty over the years. It's been dropped on rocks, kicked in the dirt, ran over, and abused like a hooker on crack. The problem now is the s/n is almost unreadable. How would I go about fixing that? I'd hate to be stopped by LEO and get accused of trying to obliterate a s/n.

time to retire it , ATF does not allow remarking on s/n's except maybe by the org manufacture and seeing that they use a roll mark not engraving its time for retirement ....

lol why not just part it out ? .. willing to bet if you parted it out on GB you would get almost enought to buy a new one ;) ....

Depending if stainless or blued, you can rub a high contrast paint over the numbers, then rub of excess and it can make engraved characters more readable.

You can also contact Ruger customer service for possible remarking.

show me where BATFE allow remarking of a firearm s/n ? like i said the manufacture(ruger) in this case is the only one that could do it, but they would have to re roll it without "obliteration" of the orig #'s as that also is not allowed
