OK, we went to the desert last Friday and dusted about 1200 rounds. 900 rounds of the ammo was either Federal XM193, or XM855. The other 300 rounds was leftover Herters (Cabella's) steel case Russian doo doo.

So:

Brand new, well lubed Colt 6940 - 80 rounds of Russian .223, short stroke 3 out of every 10 round mag, and Bolt ALWAYS failed to lock back after last shot. Standard Colt Carbine buffer. It ran flawless with 300 rounds of Federal 5.56, and Ultramax.

Bushmaster 16" carbine - still fairly new, had issues with Wolf and Herters last time we went.. Malfunction after EVERY 2 pulls of the trigger. Finally, a shell became stuck so bad in the chamber.. we had to disassemble the rifle and pry back the BCG... took about 15 minutes. There is a pic below.

My Mega Billet Lower, mega forged upper, Sabre 16" midlength barrel, Rainier Thunderbolt BCG- Cycled ALL Herters ammo just fine, 60 rounds, no issues.

My brother's Mega Billet upper/lower with BCM 410 stainless midlength 16" barrel and BCM BCG- Cycled ALL Herters ammo without any malfunctions.

Oops, forgot to mention that we also had Ultramax Remanufactured .223 ammo that ran well in all rifles.

The Bushmaster with jammed casing:

If you have ever seen the movie "Office Space", well, we don't use baseball bats when we get angry with our equipment.

Was the Russian Tula or Wolf? I have little problem cycling Wolf in my 16" Bushy, but the Tula jams all the time.

This was Herters, the Russian stuff Cabella's sells. We had trouble with Wolf, and Herters last time we went. That's why I say: DON'T BUY THE CRAP. Even though it ran fine in our Mega/Sabre/BCM rifles... that stuff leaves behind a black sticky mess.

I ran 300 rounds of seller and bellot or herters? 62 HPBT steel cast through my spikes and it ate it spat it out ans asked for more. Same with wolf.

Now she gets hand fed 77 gr homemade brass loads.

The Bushy and Colt, 223 chambers or 556? The slight difference in chamber sizes might be the problem with the Russkie ammo.

It all depend on your rifle. Some will eat it, some wont. I've been fortunate to have a rifle that will. I once shot a 1000 round case of Wolf in 30 minutes out of my rifle and didnt have any issues. The barrel and handguard got pretty hot though :52:

3 months ago I shot about 800rnds of tula .223 in my new stag model 8....I heard the ups/downs of russian ammo....At the end of the day I had no issues at all... no FTF no FTE and bolt locked back every time.....I have been told that rifles either like it or they don't.....hope it helps

Both 5.56. I think the colt is simply gased for the higher pressure rounds.

Sellier & Bellot is good stuff. I used to shoot their .223 rounds along with PMC Bronze .223 rounds all the time with great results.

My AR I built has only ever shot brown/silver bear russian ammo and has never once had a malfunction. I guess some rifles are just more picky.
