That's an awesome 5 shot group. Center to center should be smaller too.

Just askin?

Diego-ted,

I tried 155 AMAX's first and got this group.(attached below)

Then i got a box of 168's.

I tried 40,41,42,and 43 grains of VARGET.

The best group was the one i attached, at 40 grains. I have yet to try above 43 grains as im more worried about accuracy than ballistics.

The only factory ammo i shot was the PMC 147 FMJBT that i got the brass from, i dont have any groups from that.

ALL GROUPS WHERE 5 SHOTS @ 100 YARDS.

That's some good groupings!

Did you crono any of these? Environment readings? My go-to load on 168's is 44 grains of Varget. I know you said accuracy is your goal, but I would assume those guys are traveling pretty slow. My guestimate is around 300-400fps than what is ideal for ballistics.

Have you tried 175 SMK's?

Again you're going for what shoots best at 100y and I think you found it.

No unfortunatly i dont have a chrono, maybe someone can bring one to the range on sat :) lol. But yeah there prob 2400 FPS lol. Ill try to find the higher end "node" if i can.

40gr Varget is a really light load. when I was load developing for that same round, I think I started it at 42gr and finished around 44.

0.196 5 shot group and not a good shooter? lol

is your sps-v bone stock with the plastic stock? i still haven't shot mine, but i'm optimistic about its performance now.

COL of 2.90 -- that's pretty long so I guess you're loading singles? Maybe it's high time I start playing with the COL myself...

Great Shooting!

I have the SPS Tac and I'm still trying to find a load that works best. I'm at 45.5 gr. Varget, 155 gr. Sierra (2155) with OAL 2.800. I have to have it feed from the magazine so that limits my OAL.

If i recall correctly, the Tactical has a 1/10" twist barrel. You might wanna try the 178 gr AMAX.

Mine has the 1/12" twist.

Why do you HAVE to feed it from the mag?

also i got the same accuracy out of 2.810,jump or jam, i dont think the AMAX cares much.

SPS Tac is 1:12.

That sounds like a weak load since I used 45.5 grains with 175 SMK's and my 5R. Maybe try 46 up to 47 and checking for pressure. Also load to 2.810.

The SPS-V and Tac both have 1:12 twist IIRC

That is what I was thinking:rolleyes:

I don't think I could get that kind of group at 25 yards!

Oh, ok. Yea its slow but im just punching paper so performance is up to par for my needs, i do want to develop somethign stronger for hunting if i ever do any. lol.

Oh ok then try the 155/168 AMAX.

Im not an expert but if you plan on shooting out at long range, even for killing paper, the higher velocities will help

That's still pretty ram long. My bolt on my sps t won't close on a 2.820 let alone a 2.9... I try to stick around the 2.8 range .005 +/-.
