I could be mistaken, but I think putting a folding stock on a Russian SKS opens up 922r issues.

I have a Russian and a Yugo SKS. Is folding stock on SKS illegal in CA?

Not as far as I know but every aftermarket stock I've run acrross has thus far been total crap. A folder does open up Federal 922r issues though.

SB23 is for centerfire which the SKS is, but it is usually in conjunction with a Detachable magazine; but with a pistol grip arn't you allowed only one evil feature? Or is the folder not a pistol grip.... One of those questions/answers I should know but much to late for me to be either up...or thinking:p

No SKS (Russian) should be in general circulation without registration if it has a detachable magazine. Because it doesn't have a detachable magazine, SB-23 does not apply at all (at least as long as the regs don't change :) )

However, 922 is a Federal regulation that claims that the SKS loses its sporting purpose if it has too many non original parts. However, you can add more US parts and bring the rifle into compliance.

I thought the 922 regulation only applied if the SKS was imported or aquired after the regulation was put into place?

Some of you guys are confusing state and federal law. 922r is a Federal Law.

Detchable magazines and overall length are state laws.

Minimum barrel length (not an issue here) and 922r (parts count) are Federal Laws.
