Get a glock. There are way more aftermarket parts and accessories for them. You will also have a better selection for holster's and anything else you might want later.

Glock 19 just try one. I know I didn't want one, and got one anyway? It is a great all around choice in a pistol.

if it is to be your primary range gun, i'd suggest you get the same platform as your HD gun; if your HD gun is a handgun.

Get a cz75 of some form. You will spend a little more than $500 but it's worth it. As for glocks I had one. Ehhhh, didn't work for me. Mark

cant go wrong with a glock. a used one in good condition should be just as good as a new one.

were you looking at anything in particular?

I would say to try a Glock and an XD9. Completely different feel between the two guns.

Sig SP2022, Sig P228 or Glock 19.

TRUE STORY- Today (4/27) I was watching a guy at Wild Bills in EG and he was on the fence between a 17 and 19. He asked me my opinion and I told him the 19 is the best all around tool. He like what I said and bought the pistol- boom!

Go touch and feel a couple, maybe even rent them. There is nothing quite like test driving before buying...

I would go with either the Ruger SR9/SR9c or the S&W M&P9 or 9c. You won't get better lifetime service anywhere as compared to Ruger or S&W. Plus, these are just great handguns.

Depending on where you shop, you can get a CZ75B for about $500 new.

I don't know if a Glock 17/19 is all that great for target shooting. I have a G17 and love it, but definitely not my favorite target shooter.

Everyone asks the same question and the answers are always the same!

Check the lists above, then go to a range and rent them all at once and buy a couple of boxes of 9mm and try out the top contenders and compare them directly. Before even renting them, ask to hold them so you can weed out the ones that don't fit your hand without paying for that rental. If you find one that fits and you can shoot well, then either make a note of it and find another range with any pistols that the current range is missing (like if they don't have a CZ or whatever) OR, get the one that fit and shot well and forget about finding the holy grail.

Why are you hate'in on the CZ while putting Hi Point on your "standard list"?

Hey did you really mean Hi Point and not Hi Power?

MoBait
04-29-2011, 12:13 PM
Yes I did. The OP asked what 9mm pistol has at least 4" bbl length and is under $500. The Hi Point fits that category, not a Hi Power

Glock is the easy answer but don't sell yourself short and try the alternatives like the XD9 it is really an incredible piece.

Well I am not sure the Glock will fit under the 500 dollar limit, not new at least(tell me if i am wrong, haven't looked high and low at prices just local stores). I have seen some Glock's at 500, but by the time you walk out the store your 100 more with fee's and tax, if he needs a HSC, etc etc.

Thanks everyone

Now i have checked on most of these and alot of them are under 4" barrel.

the range near me rent junk guns that you think might blow up in you're hand  so shooting one is not really in option, holding one yes.

the ones i know to have a 4"+ barrel are

Glock 17 glock 19, Ruger SR9, M&P 9mm 4.25" barrel and M&P 9mm 5.0" barrel, XD9 Xtream duty, FNP9

I am wanting it for 50yrd target shooting. anyone have any insight with these at that range?

Thanks again.
