Unless the roster goes away I will not be available. I checked it out on Rugers website and it's not Cali approved. 

What is the big deal about this gun... you can exempt it like any other 1911, and it's not terribly special I really don't get it.

-Made 100% in america
-Ruger's are traditionally built like tanks
-Ruger's first 1911
-Looks sexy as hell
-Did I mention 100% made in america!

Yeah.. I'd buy a Colt every time instead, especially given those criteria, but I guess that's just me.

You'll spend a lot more given the same features.

We'll see how thoroughly Ruger tested this new product of theirs. If a good deal is all you're looking for, you should probably look for a RIA.

nope, you're not trippin. I see them as well. look at some of his other videos and you can see the bullets traveling out there as well. Look on youtube on some long range videos and you will see the arch travel of some of the bullets.

it's more obvious to see the bullet travel in warm condition. The long range video i saw on youtube seems like it was shot during hot conditions as well.

Not american made. A quality, american made 1911 for a great price is what we've been waiting for.

Hopefully these sr1911's turn out to be awesome. If they do, they'll be one of the best deals in the 1911 game.

Maybe you aren't interested in getting an SR1911 but you should be happy it's here at that price point. It will force others to be more competitive with their pricing. This model looks to be virtually the same as the SA Loaded and those aren't 100% American made. They can't justify that price as well with Ruger now in the market. Competition means better guns and better prices.

According to that video the Ruger has a loaded chamber indicator. What else does it need to be CA compliant?

The loaded chamber indicator is just a witness hole so you can see the bullet. Ruger said it did not meet california'a requirement for a LCI. It was discussed in another thread

from RUGER CS
Response: No, I am sorry the new SR1911 is not available in California. Under California Law, center fire pistols manufactured after January 1, 2007 must be equipped with both a loaded chamber indicator and a magazine disconnect. Although the SR1911 has a witness hole that allows one to determine the presence of a round on the chamber, the California Department of Justice has not recognized this device as satisfying the loaded chamber indicator requirement. The SR1911 has no magazine disconnect either. As such, the SR1911 will not be offered in California in its current configuration. At this point, there are no plans to produce a California compliant model. If you should need further assistance please call our Service Department at 928/778-6555 between 8:00 - 4:00, MST Monday thru Friday, at a time convenient for you. A Ruger Representative will be happy to help you.

That LCI isn't CA compliant. It would also need a magazine disconnect. If I had to wager money on it, I'd imagine down the road, Ruger may work up one that will have both so it can be sold in CA. They do a lot of business here so it would be a big benefit. But they probably wouldn't get to that until everything is nice and good with the SR1911. There may be a period of problems that they'll have to deal with. Maybe after that they'll look to making one CA legal.

This kind of crap makes my blood boil. The sidearm that helped make America what it is today (1911) can't be sold in one of the United States due to asinine laws imposed upon the law-abiding taxpayers by elected "representatives".

Amazing.

Then again, is this some sort of Karmic retribution for the whole ten-round magazine letter? Ruger will lose thousands of dollars in lost CA sales.

Never been much of a ruger fan but that looks to be a great 1911 for the price.

I would love to see the Ruger be CA legal in the future. If the sales go really well I think they will spin up a CA legal variant. If they sell in the normal states Ruger will have some extra funds and it will show that the model will sell well in CA also.

At least that is how I would do it. If the gun is going to be a flop why put the extra time and capital into a product that hasn't sold. If a lot of shooters adopt it then you have a good chance if it selling well in CA also.

Maybe it's the wishful thinking though.

It's a nice looking piece given it is Rugers first attempt at the 1911. I have a feeling some of the 07 ffls will have one or two in the display case soon.

Feature wise it looks identical to an RIA Tactical. Not made in the USA and it's a nicer fit n finsh for sure. If avaiable I'd get one just because it's Ruger, it's American, and especially a first edition....

I doubt it. Look at the xdm, Springfield has sold a good number I think, and they haven't mentioned a single thing about making it ca compliant. I'm pretty sure irs easier to add the "safety requirements" on a xdm than it is on a 1911..........luckygunner I would love to see the Ruger be CA legal in the future. I know you're j/k but your comment got me wondering. Could an LEO in CA purchase an SR1911 in CA and later re-sell it in CA to a non-LEO through an FFL without the missing "safety features" being added?

you can exempt it like any other 1911

How does one get an exemption in CA?

Thanks, guys. Please don't mind the n00b. :o

Question 1: yes, roster only applies to sales from an FFL. Private party transfers dont use the roster

Question 2: Single shot exemption, gun has to be made single shot(obviously), 7 inch barrel and I think there is a minimum over all length as well.

PRK arms does a lot of them.

Everybody was new once, at least you are asking the questions rather than assumeing you know and spreading FUD.

And maybe we won't buy them and go get a decent Springfield or Kimber instead. It's another 1911. Big deal.
