Hi everybody,

After going to a gun show last week and seeing the MP 15-22 I saw they were on sale at Big 5 so I went and ordered one today. I have a 10-22 but I got fed up with the feeding problems from after-market magazines so it's been a real long time since I've done any shooting.

Any tips on the MP-22? Ammo recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

How much did you paid for it? If you don't mind me asking...in the market for one myself, possibly.

I have shot multiple thousands of the Federal bulks through mine over the past year. No problems to speak of. A couple FTFs, likely the ammo.

You will be happy. Oh... and get a Red Dot too!

Did you go look at the Big5 Ad? It is listed in there...

Sean, welcome to the family! You will have lots of fun with your 15-22. I've had good results with CCI AR tactical. It's copper plated round nose .40 grain it was designed for our S&W. I have shot 1 box of 375 in my first trip to the range. I will shoot maybe 1 or 2 more boxes then try other ammo. CCI Blazer & Federal. You'll be fine if you don't run remmington crap. Oh & pick up more magazines. 44mag.com has them for $15.99 each

I've shot over 2000 rds through mine. I've used Fed bulk, CCI AR tactical, and Blazer ammo. No problems
Except a few with Fed bulk.

Took a Carbine course last month and shot 900 rds with no failures at all.

I love my 15-22, almost 3000 rounds through it and only one FTF which was ammo related. Mine likes CCI blazer.

Is it true that all mp 15-22 and colt m4 22 magazines are interchangeable?

I've had perfect results with Federal bulk value packs, and with CCI Blazer bulk value packs. Same with CCI Mini Mags, but they cost a lot more so I'd rather use the Blazer or Federal ammo.

My advice is to get more mags for it, so you spend less time reloading and more time shooting.

Wow! Thanks for all the ammo advice! I've got a few boxes of remingtons so I'll probably try that once I pick up my 15-22 in 10 days.

I'm already looking into a red dot sight and getting the barrel threaded for a compensator.

Cant wait!

Great value. I have been using their MultiReticle one for a few months now with a cantliever mount and have zero problems excellent groupings at 25 and 50yards. They have very good customer service and quick shipping too.

I have a Vortex Strikefire on mine. Love it! If you want to put a sling on it you can still put a sling plate adapter on it. Just tighten it down and it will hold.

+1 on the Federal and Blazer CCI

44mag.com has the best deals on mags. Shipping wasn't to bad either if I remember correctly.

I took mine out for the first time today, you are in for a treat once you get it out! I had great luck with the CCI Blazer.

The factory 10 round mags(blue followers) don't have the buttons on the side of the follower that allow you to pull it down to aid in loading. I found using a house key through the slot worked well in their stead.
I ended up buying 10 rounders through rrages.com which are permanently pinned hi-caps and they have the follower buttons(red followers). No fuss, no muss.

The 15-22 can accept real AR triggers so if you get tired of the rough trigger is in there, you can easily replace it.

^^ I use 1/2 a wooden chopstick to slide the lever down.

mine eats anything - Remington Golden 22lr's usually give me the most issue's in my 10/22, less in the 15-22. Federal wallyworld bulk pack i give an A, CCI blazers A+

try doing your own mod on the fire control group, very simple to buff & polish (google & youtube is your friend). My trigger is ALLOT better.

Turners also has them on sale currently - I got the MOE version it just looks more Evil to me :D

Congrats on your new rifle, you will not be dissapointed!!!

Congrats, I hope you got the MOE version...kinda doubt it for $469 though...
These AR types are the RAGE right now!
For ammo; I recommend CCI minimags 36 grain HP at 1260 fps, or if you're planning to shoot a lot, then get Federal Champion Bulk 36 grain HP at 1260 fps, 525 rnds for about $18.
The light weight and copper plated bullet will cycle nicely through these rifles.

Nope. The 15-22 can only take it's own magazines although I think someone made a drum magazine for it recently.

+1 for Primary Arms. I've got their M4-style and 5x magnifier in a QD mount. Really good stuff. Great for dealing death to the squirrel population as well.
