View Full Version : Let's have fun now! Come up with a good PRO 2A "phrase"

Since it looks like we might start getting more "visible" at some point (that point being now) - I thought we could maybe play with words. . .

. . . and come up with some neat PRO-2A "phrases."

Even funny is good!

Mine - and I stole it from Firefly - is:

"You can't stop the TRUTH."

Another is:

"Common-sense gun RIGHTS."

You guys seemed to like the phrase "Truth Rally" at last month's ANTI-MAIG event. . . And I know the guy who came up with that one, really well. . .

;)

Thoughts???

Even funny is good!!! Let's have fun for a bit!!!

:D

"Freedom. It was a good idea then and its a good idea now"

"Tyranny. Liberty. I choose the 2nd"

This one's too long, and totally derivative:

"They banned certain imports and we fall back.
They banned certain rifles and we fall back.
They banned standard magazines and we fall back.
They make us buy guns off a stupid list and we fall back.
No! No more! We draw the line here! And no further!
And we'll make them pay for what they've done!"

The trick, of course, is to sound like Patrick Stewart.

Umm, the classic "You can't rape a .38" still has a good ring to it and it's about as nonsensical as the Liberals' 1980s, "You can't hug your kid with nuclear arms", so it can't be logically countered.

Definitely should emphasize the rights aspect of the 2nd amendment. It's about choices and rights. And though this is an oldie, it's a powerful statement: "I don't want to live in a world where police and military are the only ones allowed to own guns." The revolutionary aspect of the 2nd amendment has potential for appeal to people who associate with the mainstream left.

This is one I remember from rocker Theodore Nugent, in a speech he gave in Wayne LaPierre's stead at FreedomFest 2005 in Lost Wages (Mr. LaPierre had fallen unexpectedly ill):

"The Second Amendment is a concealed-carry permit."

Something else he said that stuck in my mind - not a phrase entry but good advice: "If you're not in contact with your elected representatives at least once a calendar quarter, you're a chump. Don't be a chump."

Here's my entry:

Gun control keeping criminals safer since 68.

Gun control worked for Hitler, Stalin, and Mexico.....Whos the next massacre?

Imagine if you had to have good cause and moral character to have the freedom to speak your mind in public.

Guns save more lives than cars kill, where is the ca assualt car?

Guns don't kill people, idoits do.

CA, where the name printed on a piece of aluminum is the difference between being legal and felony

CA, where changing the grips on a 1911 could make it unsafe.

Gun control is using two hands, and good trigger control.

Guns all you have to remember is four rules and nobody ever gets hurt (although the first one will work just as well), cars you can do nothing wrong and many people can die.

Self defense, so cool the bible says to do it.

Only fools would committed crimes in a truly armed society.

When the government bans something of course it goes away look at the prohibition

Look How well gun control works for chicago, LA, DC Oakland, and countless others.

When we have a fire we blame the arsonist, not the matches, when we have a car accident from a dui we blame the driver, not the alcohol or car, when we have laker riot we blame the people in the streets not the team, but if we have a firearms death we blame the gun, not the people shooting, whats the deal?

When the government is in fear of the people we have liberty, when we fear the government we have tyranny.

Gun control was solved in 1791 why mess with it.

When it comes to legislating away my gun rights, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you.

Because making cocaine illegal ended the crack problem, right?

If guns are so dangerous, why do we let police have them?

But my gun is for hunting! Inside my house, at night, for the animals who are breaking in!

This thread is full of WIN!!! I would wear a t-shirt with nearly any of the slogans so far. Below are my current favorites.

"We arm Lybian rebels, but disarm law-abiding Americans?"
Very Timely.

"First Amendment: Speak Your Mind. Second Amendment: Save Your Life."
Classic: makes non-gunnies think about their rights.

It takes two minutes for police to show up. It takes two seconds to defend myself.
Awesome, but change "myself" to "yourself".

The Second Amendment . . . Because feeling safe isn't enough.
Might be too subtle for many who currently have their head in the sand.

[QUOTE=Write Winger;6257768]You have no rights you can't defend.
Simple and true, one of my favorites.

We don't have guns because of the Bill of Rights. We have the Bill of Rights because we have guns.
Never heard this one before, but I love it!

Not a phrase, but from a friend named Jim March:

Anti-gunner: Why don't you gun nuts form your own country and leave us alone!!
Pro-gunner: We did. Who the hell invited you?
THIS would go great as a stick figure comic strip on a t-shirt.

That 250lb rapist IS afraid of your gun!
Not much better way to get through to the ladies than to get them thinking about how THEY might keep themselves safe.

We need to remember our target audience. So any phrase that will make them think about losing the rights they love so much will probably do the most good. I'm liking the comparisons between the 1st and 2nd.
While I love the "come and take it" or "suck my glock!" these types of sayings just make the antis uncomfortable and they will not even consider our side.

But their "valuing of the 2nd" is that the police/military are/should be the 'militia' and that the 2nd doesn't actually apply to me and you (rather, that it doesn't prohibit the gov't from restricting me/you re: weapons). Equating it to Civil/Human rights seems to be a more effective approach than the 'Constitutional' approach (even though, on paper, they're the same). Perception is everything.

I actually like this. It's the truth. This also applied to poor Irish immigrants, poor Chinese immigrants, coal miners of all races in the 1920's (see Matewan).

Certain groups were never literally enslaved, but were subjugated. If you can stand the political-correctness, please read THIS book:

A People's History of the United States (http://www.historyisaweapon.com/zinnapeopleshistory.html). It's accurate, and highly thought of by historians, and is used as a text-book in college-level classes.

Truth is never wrong, even if it makes people uncomfortable. Especially.

General rule. Race is something that you can always talk about. And race as it applies to gun control should be talked about a LOT, since "modern" gun control started as a way to control free blacks, during the reconstruction. I can go on and on. . .

"Weapons Control" goes back 1000's of years. Only land owners and non-peasants have traditionally been allowed to own real weapons. This is true in EVERY major culture. Read about the history of martial arts, for example, etc. . . There's a pattern here, an obvious one.

Yes - APHOTUS is very left, but exceedingly accurate. Painfully so. After reading it, I love my own country even more!!!

The reason is that we are the only country that I know of - where we make mistakes, then FIX them. Sometimes, it takes a long time - but we DO fix them.

Other countries tend to go downhill - look at how socialist GB is now (Great Britain, not Gunbroker, you dummies!!!!).

:)

We only go up. And we have since the Founding Fathers signed the Constitution.

Not to get all ra-ra - but it's folks like US (me and you) that are part of the reason why this is true. When Americans see something wrong - they fix it. It takes time - but we are a country of fixers, not losers.

THIS. I have been contemplating what our best approach to changing the mass opinion of firearms and their owners for a while, and had come to this conlcusion:
A few years ago, a friend of mine had told me about the racist roots of the beginnings of gun control. He had told me it was something he had discovered when doing a paper on the subject for school. Since then, those facts have done nothing but bother, and infuriate me. Sloly over time since then, I have bee learning more and more about the correlation between gun control and flat out racism/bigotry, and that is when it hit me. This is it, this is our angle. As we all know, most of the state is filled with people that consider themselves "liberal", and most of these "liberal" people consider themselves to be "progressive" liberals, in the fact that they have "progressed" beyond what they "traditionally" associate with "conservatives" (ie. racism/bigotry, for "big business" and the rich, against human rights, against "freedom", etc.). Since they believe that they have "progressed" past such things as racism and bigotry, we need to bring to light the truth behind the utterly undeniably racist purposes and origins gun control spawned from. We need to make it so in your face blatantly obvious, that even Stevie Wonder in a pitch black room with a blindfold on could see it for what it really is. We need to paint such a vivid picture of it in that light, that it would sicken them to even think that they ever considered being associated with it. The only way to get through to them, is to put it in to terms that they can understand, and most importantly, RELATE to. You must realize that most of the people that are "anti" don't operate on a logic based decision making process, or otherwise they WOULDN'T BE anti. They operate on a purely emotion based process. That is how the anti groups (such as the Bradys) were SO successful during their heyday. Additionally, you need to understand that this ISN'T stooping to their level, in fact, it is exactly the OPPOSITE of that. In reality, we are simply just using INFORMATION to appeal to their process of reasoning, and in all reality, it is the only LOGICAL way to do so. It is simply a TACTIC that we are using in our fight, and sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. It's just that plain and simple.
Now, I do know that some people would be opposed to using a tactic like this, because they think that it is pulling the "race card", and in a way, it is right. However, you must remember that, we didn't pull this card, THEY did. We are simply bringing to light the awful truths of what they are really doing here. Also, keep in mind, that when you are fighting any battle, let alone a full-scale war (which is what we ARE in here), you use whatever tactics are necissary to deal the most damaging blows to your enemy that you can, and that give you the greatest advantage you can have. We have tried for years to do this "politely", and in the "gentlemanly" way, and not "stoop down to their level". Well my friends, it hasn't gotten us that far to be honest. They refuse to play "fair" and "gentlemanly", so we need to play hardball. We need to beat them at their own game. Now, I do most fervently believe that CG and the CGF, along with our many associates have been taking the appropriate approach to our situation and fight so far. If they weren't, they wouldn't have been so damned successful, and we most definitely need to continue down that path. However, now that we have won some decisive battles and gained some ground and momentum, it is time to take our game up a notch. We need to start engaging in a multi-front battle here, that is the only key to success. Now that we are starting to gain the spotlight, it is time to launch a PR campaign to paint ourselves in the proper light for the people we really are, and win the court of the public's "hearts and minds" (I do apologise for the cliche line, but it is most fittingly appropriate here). Once we do that, we will find ourselves having a much stronger, and a much LOUDER voice, more voting support (wich will, in turn, prevent more morons from being elected and able to do more damage [and even, dare I say it, vote OUT some of the ones that have done the most]), wich will in turn allow us to see LESS laws being proposed and going through that violate our fundemental rights, and even see many of the laws that exist be repealed without us needing to litigate them. In the end, we win in the fact that we have both a restoration of our rights, and we will have to spend far less money defending them (although, donations to organizations like the CGF, SAF, NRA, CRPA, etc. should NEVER stop). We need to focus on such subjects as the blatantly racism of gun control and the safety concerns of women (such as preventing/stopping rape and defending their children and keeping them safe) These are the two most untapped resources we have available, and this is (I believe) the key to our ultimate victory.

oni.dori, i would remind you that gun control found an easy entry into california due to the vision of an armed Black Panther movement in the 1960's/70's. the thought of armed black people scared white californians of all backgrounds. the gun movement did not come out in support of these people. yes, it was racist. but if the gun movement wants support, its going to have to embrace those of color and different belief systems as well. including those of us that are admittedly liberal WITH guns.....in my case, many guns. some liberals do get the connection between 2A and our rights. imo, the Black Panthers were right to arm themselves for self-protection and the gun movement was wrong to not back them.

there were incidents written about in Florida where the black community armed itself. also, elsewhere. i recently heard an old interview....Lena Horne?.....in which it was revealed that the family was left alone because it was known there was a firearm in the house. if the gun movememnt wants to play the race card....and i'm not sure that's a bad idea....its time to do some research into history and present factual information as well as to own up to its failure to back gun rights for immigrants and people of color.

No words could better express the dangers of a disarmed populace. Unfortunately today's America doesn't believe this is possible. The sale has to be on a smaller scale than a nation or nation of people. <rant>We have way too large a standing army. Having such a large standing army means they must have something to do, therefore we are fighting 2.5 wars. But to carry only a minimal standing army would mean that the rest of society would have to be prepared to defend themselves and mostly we simply can't be bothered.</rant>

Ok, now I go :hide:

You shouldn't hide. This is, IMHO, very good.

FTW

And I like to think that the basis for this flows from the 2nd. That is, we, unlike other countries, value the ability to do for ourselves. We don't sit & wait for someone else to fix a problem. That tends to leave any & all problems unfixed. I believe that it is the training of the mind that carrying a gun provides that makes this so.

Along with that, I guess its time to re-post a link to a favored essay on the subject. Since I haven't lately.

Fixed. The Second Amendment is NOT a "liberal vs. conservative" issue. Most people think it is, though, and that misconception is a lot of the reason we have lost so many of our Second Amendment freedoms. Anti-gun-rights activists know how to divide and conquer. Perhaps what we need to consider is a "Negative Campaign" in many parts of the state.

Consider the following:

Ban Guns: Because shooting violent juvenile offenders is not something a civilized society supports.

Ban Guns: Because shooting burgulars leaves families without parents

Ban Guns: Because criminals will stop carrying guns if we stop first.

Ban Guns: Because chanting and praying will shift our conscience and move us to a more peaceful world.

Ban Guns: Because we can't have a "Police State" with them.

Ban Guns: Because our elected officials shouldn't be afraid of the People.

Ban Guns: Because I have a right to feel safe and my prozac isn't doing it.

Ban Guns: I don't want to get shot when I break into your house and **** you up your ***.

You are correct. I can't argue with your logic.

I generally use this because like insurance, it is better to have a gun and not need it, than to need it and not have it. My thought on life insurance in particular was that it makes you think about death. Thinking about it though it is not really relevant.

I suppose this was not that well thought out, "Life" could be left out, but this has worked with people I have talked to. Granted, the people I generally talk to are not anti's just have not formed an opinion yet.

I am well aware of the racist roots of gun control in California tracing it's way back to the Black Panthers, along with going back even further (and on a national scale) to the deep south after the Emancipation Proclemation, as a way to keep freed slaves defenceless and still quasi-enslaved. That was the entire point I was trying to make. Also, please don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to "diss" liberals. It was not meant in that way at all. If it seemed that way, I apologize. I do know that there are plenty of liberal leaning people in California (along with the rest of the country) that own firearms, and support 2A rights just as passionately as I do. I also realize that, up until the hippie movement, coupled with the JFK assassination, that the majority of liberals/Democrats were pro-gun. In fact, JFK himself (one of the most famous and well-loved Democratic presidents in our Nation's history) was a card holding meber of the NRA. Also, IIRC, Colt had a specially made SAA made that had his likeness and accomplishments engraved all over it and inlaid in gold that they presented to him as a gift. I also do realize that there were plenty of conservative people that have supported and contributed to gun control as well, and I am not looking to hide that in any way. All I was simply trying to do is point out observations based upon today's climate. The sad fact is, that a majority of TODAY'S politically liberal minded people in California support gun control, and a majority of the people involved in the gun control movement are politically liberal minded. Most of this has to do with the fact that most MODERN liberal anti-gunners are this way simply becasue a lack of education and flat-out MISINFORMATION. Many of them have been programmed through propeganda to believe that gun ownership and the support of 2A rights is a "conservative" thing, and that all "conservatives" are bigots that hate minorities and the poor, and only want rich, white, Christian people owning firearms, and that firearms are the root of all problems and violence in the minority's ghettos; instead of the cold hard fact that, predominately throughout history, the "progressive" liberal movement of history (especially in the southern states) was deeply tied in with racism and bigotry (namely, the KKK). You can't soon forget how recently a very prominent "progressive" Democratic politician that was self-admittedly an active member of the KKK passed away about a year ago. Yet, most MODERN DAY California liberals consider themselves to be "progressives", even though the moniker has strong affiliation with racism. The fact of the matter is, they simply have no clue of that. The reason I want this brought to light is not just so we can liberal "bash" and win people over to the "conservative" side, because I fully understand that this isn't a liberal vs. conservative issue, it's a MISINFORMATION issue. Plain and simple. The reason why I want this brought to light is to fight the MISINFORMATION, so that we can cohesively STAND TOGETHER and fight for our rights, liberals, conservatives, Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and Undecideds, all TOGETHER. THAT is the key to our victory, cooperation and solidarity.

Your logic is inverted in that statement.

If you mean mine:

I think I may have improved this:

"Buying a Life Insurance Policy is gambling that you will get killed before you've paid too many premiums:

Buying a firearm stacks the deck (in your favor)."

Maybe there's an ambiguity there depending upon whether you think getting killed early is in your favor or not. More in your next of kin's favor, I would suggest.

You can gamble on something you don't want to happen, you know, so I stick to there being no inversion in the original, just the ambiguity.

Maybe I should change it to:

"Buying a Life Insurance Policy is gambling that you will get killed before you've paid too many premiums:

Buying a firearm stacks the deck in favor of a longer life."

But that's clumsier.

Like these?

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!" -- Benjamin Franklin

"False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes." -- Cesare Beccaria 1764

"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the people's liberty teeth keystone... the rifle and the pistol are equally indispensable... more than 99% of them by their silence indicate that they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference. When firearms go, all goes, we need them every hour." George Washington, Address to 1st session of Congress

Though that's the problem with the twittering kids these days, anything beyond 7 words and you've lost their attention.
