I always wanted a Walther P1. I saw the ad onWidener's (http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=100000236&dir=700|1012|1027) but they won't ship to CA. It's actually on the list for OK pistols and it looks to be C + R, but it's just their company policy. Do any of you know any other way (other than a middle man FFL) to get one? These look particularly clean. I don't know what these actually go for, but $359 sounds very reasonable.

I talked to the guy at Widener's and he said that they were late on obtaining these, but said several of these were released. I don't want to pay for the extra middle man FFL. Let me know if you guys have any idea or know of any retailers that will ship to CA. Thanks ahead of time.

J&G Sales just sent out an email that they received a shipment of both P1 and P38 handguns. They also said that they are now C&R, which would make them exempt from the Roster.

try JGsales.com. They should have some that qualify for C&R.

I got one from AIM. The FFL I shipped it to asked if it was on the roster, I told him its C&R and didn't have any issues. I guess they just register it as a C&R. Makes ya wonder if anyone would actually check to see if its on the roster or not? Anyway it is C&R so no worries. Wideners are being buttheads for not shipping to CA.

Wideners will still ship stuff to California C&R FFLs if it is legal to do so (50+ year old C&R long guns). They just don't want to sign up for the CFLC system to be able to ship to California dealer FFLs.

For the most part it's the frame. A WAR time P-38 is a steel frame. POST WAR P-38's and P-1's have alloy frames. Also, there were some weakness to the early alloy frame models. So, later ones have a pinned frame to help make them stronger. Either model is fine; though you can't shot +P ammo through them.

Oh ok, thanks. I could not see any visual difference between the 2.

Does the p1/p38 eject the shells out of the left side of the gun?
From all of the pictures I can see, the extractor is on the left side of the gun  lol

Wow, that is odd to say the least.

The gun pictured in the OP's post is an interesting variation. The sides of the slide come up higher and cover the side of the barrel, unlike the WWII P-38's and the early post war P-38's and P-1's. Also, it is marked Kal rather than Cal. In my experience these pistols are dated in the mid to late 70's.

No problems as I ordered one from JGsales.com. I have to pay a li'l more but it looks to be worth it. I actually see a P1 on the active roster list. Does Walther currently manufacture these?

I have ordered from Widener's before but usually just cast bullets, primers, and such. I was surprised that they wouldn't ship a C&R but they just don't want to deal with CA laws. It's their prerogative, but it's their loss of business. Thanks for all input fellas. This is my first C&R pistol, and I can't wait to take it to the range.

Walther no longer manufactures them. It was the importer who submitted them for Roster approval.

I believe there is a P1 listet in the market place.

Here's my German police trade-in Manurhin P1 from 1961 (fyi, all post war Walther pistols were manufactured iin France by Manurhin. Pistols for Germany were sent there for assembly and proof testing)

and my mid '70s P38k, LNIB, unfired outside factory.

Interesting gun - it reminds me of half of a 92fs/m9.

FYI there is an exemption in CFLC for shipping to FFL 03's... Ie the out of state dealer does NOT have to sign up.

If you have a C&R license you should know that, know where exemption is in the P.C., and be able to send that info to the out of state dealer.

Only works for rifles/shotguns. All handguns must go through a 01 FFL.

It doesn't say if they have matching numbers or not. I wonder if these are the mixed match that SOG had a while back?
