Well compared to the other guns you have listed, the 1911 IMHO is far easier to shoot more accurately with. BTW, I had the same type of experience myself ;).

I have the same gun, and just shot it for the first time a couple of nights ago.

First mag I yanked a couple low left, (my first 1911, and first .45) and from the second mag on it was getting dialed in pretty fast for a new gun.

By far the best trigger and ergonomics of any of my guns. They were getting ready to close and flashed the lights on & off at me, so I only got to shoot about 70 rounds through it. (I also had to break in my new Marlin 795 rifle) I look forward to what I can do with some more practice.

I had the same experience when I first took my Dan Wesson PM7 to the range last month... I then tried shooting my HK P2000 right after....

Smart move buyig the .22lr conversion; they're great for inexpensive practice and will make you a better shooter fast.

Had the same first experience with my SA loaded and my fiancÚ enjoyed just as much as I did as well! Trigger pull, ergonomics, and just about everything about it is great.

You could also pony up for a press and start reloading. That helps me save a bundle on 45 ACP..

I've considered it, but I don't trust myself reloading at this point.

Great gun! If it wasn't for cost, I think almost everyone who doesn't reload would shoot a 1911 in 45. So nice!
