Thanks :D. I paid $1400 for it. I know I could have gotten it for a bit less but nobody else had one in stock at the time.

Mind if I ask where you got it? Next purchase is a railed 1911 and noone around me really has it in stock. The one place I found them in stock had a Kimber warrior II for 1399  and a Springfield Armory MC operator for 1299 at a local store. Price seemed kinda steep to me

Haha, as much as I love 1911's (and honestly shoot them better than any other pistol) I still strap my Glock on everyday before heading out to work

I know what you mean. I love 1911's, I have a safe full and for the most part I compete with nothing else but if it all came down I'd go to my Glocks first.

Dude,
you have one of the coolest looking 1911's i've even laid eyes on. That thing is sickwicked looking. Who did the work on it? How long did you wait? and what (if you wouldn't mind saying) did you have to pay to get that done? I have a Delta Elite in 10mm that I'm thinking about sending to NH for a 10-8 treatment, but you may have just cost me more money, cause I like that a lot more than their 10-8 look.

Thanks. It's isn't nearly aggresive enough for me to really feel it, so I'm indifferent. I believe there wouldn't be enough traction to suit my tastes if this gun was chambered in .45, but in 9mm I'll let it be.

You really can't beat it for the price. I'd like a stainless one as well, they look pretty sharp. It's a tad squirrley when compared to my SA and Wesson, but not a bad gun by any means. The hogue wraparound seems to sturdy it up a bit in my hand.

Love the looks! Just all business and no bling, but you know they are worth more than any blinged up 1911.

I don't think I could live long enough to top that.... that is an exquisite collection.

My one and only (sold / traded away a couple over the years) 1911 at the moment is a 70's vintage Combat Commander in .45 ACP.

...so where could I get one that simply has that sexy "Classic" on the side? it's so CLEAN. Or is it a different model...? Sorry I'm new to DW, let alone 1911s. TIA! :D

One step down (in price basically) from the Professional model. Took nine months to get it from the custom shop a few years ago.

Replaced the MSH with an arched and checkered one from Smith & Alexander

Got rid of the full length guide rod in favor of a standard s.s. plug and spring set-up

Put on some plane Jane walnut grips

I'm liking it just fine this way

These slim ahrend grips were in my parts bin. I put them on just to try out slims on the baer. Surprised what a nice looking combo they make. They don't feel that great though, the wood finish has a sticky feel and the grips aren't very grippy. We'll see how I feel after a range trip. Right now I'm still leaning towards davidson warthog, horned lizard, or vz double diamonds.http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2644/3735705099_18437b74fc_b.jpg

So, here's my stock GI M1911.

During WWII my Grandfather had his 1911 stolen from him by another Marine. His pay was docked something like $25 (from what he recalls). Well, eventually he found who took the 1911 and got it back (From what he says the other guy ended up being sorry). When he was eventually discharged after the Pacific theater came to an end he was allowed to keep his 1911 since he had paid for it.

It's nice having something that I know he carried and fired in combat on Okinawa. It's not only a piece of history, but also a piece of my Grandfather that I will be able to hand down to my Son(s) as a reminder that our freedom came at a price.

Note: The serial number shows it was manufactured in 1918.

Do my eyes deceive me, or is there no MSH on this gun? Looks to me to be a solid frame that was checkered.

The MSH checkering was extended to the frame. It is deceiving. The line between the MSH and the frame is hidden in those vertical grooves. Nice work huh.

To paraphrase Bill Engvall, "No, that's not nice, THAT'S AWESOME!" I had to lean really close to the screen to even pick up the faint line of where the MSH is. That's some high quality work. Was the frame checkered to match, or was a smooth MSH checkered in place?

tipoc
09-24-2009, 8:52 PM
The work was done back in '93. IIRC a smooth SH was used and the checkering done of a piece.

Another point of interest that can be seen in these pics is that the Bo-Mar installation was done right. The rear of the Bo-Mars do not overhang the rear of the slide. Often you see them installed and they overhang by quite a bit interfering with access to the hammer, that's not the case with this gun.

No, I got it. Although one would have preferred the saying to be lightened a little, with a smily face, or another few words like "I'm jealous", or "Nice pair" or something...

One of the hardest things to do in generalis to ask a person to read another person's intention or emotion. Especially on the internet.

All in all, no problem. I was not offended and was just mildly. slightly tickled. I got over it.

Something Clark offered for bullseye guns. I don't recall what he called it but an extra 1/4" of material was welded to the front of the frame and set screws installed and adjusted to provide for just the right amount of upward pressure on the slide to aid in accuracy. (Note the flats on the dust cover.) This was in addition of the handfitting of the slide to frame, etc. His guns were guaranteed to 2" at 50 yards from a machine rest. The work was done in 1990.

Trojan Horse...wow. Strange I went to the website a couple of times and when I try to visit the store all I get is a blank webpage. I figured something must be wrong with the website. The hammer is a Koenig low mass hammer - standard. They sell them. You can also find the same hammer at Brownells http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=16143/Product/1911_AUTO_LOW_MASS_HAMMERS The magwell I got has the beveled sides and it comes as a extra option. It should be on the website.

Next on the list is a new magwell, safety, firing pin, mag release, Tactical2 Ghost Rings Sights, and a Duracoat paintjob.
