In CA, if it can chamber of shotgun shell, it has to have a barrel over 18". It doesn't matter if the barrel is rifled or not.

I believe possession of the short barreled shotgun barrel alone - as in not even attached to the gun - is illegal in CA. Possessing the barrel alone is the same as possessing the complete and assembled firearm. I have a 45 ACP Bond Derringer only because the 45 Colt/410 is a no no in CA. What I'm not certain about is if a +16" T/C Contender rifle barrel, chambered and marked only as 45/70 Gvt, is illegal if it happens to be able to chamber a 2 1/2" 410 shell.

A rifled TC barrel chambered in .357 or .44mag that has a screw out choke should be legal in CA. TC used to make special shotshells for these barrels but, I think it would not be considered a SBS in Ca.
