I've been putting some thought into what kind of optics I'm going to put ontop of my latest AR build. How do the SS's perform? I dont want to (cant) put real expensive glass ontop of this thing. Their web page says they'll handle a 50 so I'm guessing an 5.56 won't kill this scope. What do you have to say about your Super Sniper?

I love mine. It couldn't function any better.

I have one on my .223 LTR. Works just fine. Kinda big and bulky though, you might want to look at the Bushnell Elite 3200 Mildot. It's a bit more compact, a bit cheaper, and a great all around scope.

The glass isn't as clear as a Bushnell Elite which is in the same price range but the 30mm tube allows more travel and can get you out past the 600 meter mark.

I have a 10x and I think they made them as a beginner setup that you can learn the mil dot system and not break the bank. If you want to check it out I can bring it out to the range one weekend.

If I had to do it over again Id buy a nice Loopy.

Ratters, I swear sometimes you're like the big brother I never had. I might look into that instead.

What do you guys think of a 6x18 scope for 100 yds? I've been shooting pistols and I am just now getting into rifles. I picked up a cheap 6x18 to play with until I figure out what I want. I haven't taken it to the range yet, but i'm just curious if that is enough power for 100 yds?

Leupold makes a great 4-12 power fixed focus with a Long Range duplex reticle. Great scope and under $300. Better glass than the SS scopes.

I've owned all the SS models, and they have all performed well, but I've always found a reason to sell them off. Perhaps I'm an optics snob, and hate the Tasco/Hakko/whomever makes them this week for SWFA idea.

Save some cash and look at the lower models from Leupold. Lifetime coverage, and really superior glass. For .223 and close range, focus is not an issue. In fact my Leupold 4-12 fixed focus is what currntly sits atop my Serbu Carbine in .50BMG. For the shortest barreled .50BMG I own, I figured 500 yards max shooting. Fixed focus and 12 power are fine out to 500 yards.

wait, your scope is only 6 power and has an 18mm objective lense diameter? Or did you type it wrong and you mean you have a variable power scope which adjusts from 6 power to 18 power (6-18) with, for example, a 50mm objective lense which would be a 6-18x50. If you did mean that, 18 power is TOO much for 100 yards unless you are strictly just punching paper for the sake of punching paper. At 18x at 100 yards, your field of view is less than 10 feet meaning you can't see crap on either side of the target and if you target is moving, there is no way you will be able to track it well at that magnification. When shooting at 100 yards, you should have the scope adjusted to between 6 and 10 power. If the scope is cheap, like you said, then your sight picture will be dark and fuzzy at 18x anyway because it is crappy glass.

Love my 16X SS. Has performed great, I actuall think the glass is nice and it always returns to zero when I make windage changes.

Leupold Mk4 Tactical Scope!

3-9x40mm LR model w/ Mil-dot.... should be around that same price range...

The glass is definitely clearer than a SS.

i have a SS 20X on a 50 it was a nice cheap first scope just to try it out on the 50. i will be replacing it with a larger objective and variable power scope eventually so i will see if it will last until i get the funds for the new scope.

i also have the bushnell elite 3200 10X that was suggested on a M1A and it works fine and is not too bulky. it would go nice on an AR and not hurt the wallet.

well, all I can say is check out the Leupold VX-I 4-12x40mm scope. I have one on my savage, and love it.
