I have purchased my barrels directly from Daniel Defense:

Their light weight (pencil profile) barrels are really good. Just make sure they have the barrel in stock if not you might have to wait several weeks for them to manufacture the barrel.

Forgive me if this question seems out of line (but you never know when new members post...) but why do you want such a short barrel on your AR? You are going to have to permanently attach a muzzle device to make it 16" anyway, why not go with a 14.5" or a 16" instead?

yea what he said..... lol

the reason I am looking for such a short barrel is so I can get rifle length handguards to cover most of or all of the barrel with just the compensator showing. Thats the look im going for. I am aware that the compensator has to be permanently attached to be CA legal.

at 12.5 you pretty much need a fake can to reach the 16" minimum. Unless theres just some rediculous huge comp out there I havent seen ( not that I look much ).

I was looking at getting the noveske flash hider which is over 3" long. I was originally going to get a 14.5" but rifle length handguards wont completely cover the barrel.

well it has to be a solid 3 1/2 - 3 3/4

The Noveske KX3 will need a barrel with a minimal 13.25" length to reach 16" TOTAL overall length when threaded.

damn. didnt take into consideration the loss of length when threaded. whats an ideal twist rate also? 1/7 or 1/9? thanks for all the input

1/7 is better for for heavier bullets.
Most 5.56/223 ammo is 55gr. So unless you plan on shooting 75gr bullets a 1/9 barrel should be good.

This should help http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=128380

What about an 11.5" barrel and one of these 5 1/2" extended flash hiders pinned?

might as well just get a 14.5 barrel instead of using the 5 1/2 flash hider.

I still havent purchased a barrel because I am still debating on what to do.

is there a way to get a barrel cut down to a preferred size?

are you going to be shooting this rifle past 100yrds? WIth that short of a barrel , the psi is going to be different and affect the bullet flight

I know the range and flight path will be affected but I will most likely not shoot it past 100 yds.

or.. if your set on the fake can.. get a 16" barrel and get one of spikes tactical fake cans that covers the barrel.. ??

not thinking about getting a fake can. Just wanted to have only the compensator sticking out of the handguards.
