This may have been talked about, but I couldn't find. I did search for it.:)

Would something like this be legal? I seems to be pretty comfortable.

Yes that would be legal.

Then why are the SRB's so popular? Why don't people just take a saw to their standard grip? Cheaper, easier, and more comfortable.

Because some argue that the example you showed is a little too close for comfort. There is a debate over whether a "pistol grip" requires the web of the hand location AND a "pistol style grasp" allowing the fingers to wrap around the grip, or just one or the other meaning just the location of the web of the hand could make your example a pistol grip. This is in contrast to the SRB which does not allow for any purchase for the web of your hand below the prescribed line.

Thats understandable. Thanks for clearing that up.

It seems like a gray area until you consider the previous DOJ memo that says it does not allow a pistol style grasp because the other fingers can't get around it. I would rather just go with a MonsterMan Grip because it allows better control.

My take on it is that it is not a "protruding grip".

The DOJ has issued a letter about the legality of the "Barrett" grip. They basically said that if the thumb and finger are the only things grabbing it, it doesn't count as a pistol grip. The comment period of what is a "pistol grip" talked about this issue. They said that there is no amount of fingers that make it a pistol grip (which is different than the Barrett letter), which leaves open to the idea that this could count because it does allow for a "pistol style grasp" with the web under the "line". That was just the comment period though. It really doesn't count as to anything. Just their mindframe.

Bottom line is that it does allow for a "pistol style grasp" but it is not a "protruding grip". You would think it would have to be both to be illegal.

That Barrett letter will go a long way to defend you if you got busted with it. Print a copy out and keep it with you.

This is just my opinion though.

How is this different from the Brownell Rite-Pull Grip Adapter?

It still looks kinda uncomfortable. Pricey too. I think you can get a standard grip and cut it down for like $5

Yes it is. I wouldn't do this for this rifle. I was thinking ahead for when I get my OLL.

Forward the pics to the DOJ and ask for a written explanation of why or why not this device follows SB23.

Address the question to a specific person and I would call ahead to give them advance warning of your email/letter.

The response could keep you from being the next SPG if you know what Im mean.

Good luck
